Very disturbing trip last night/today

Postby gokartmozart on Fri Jan 26, 2007 11:32 pm

I made a roundtrip from Houston to Memphis and back, a 20 hour car voyage, leaving home and arriving again 25 hours later. Would have made it in 23 hours but fatality truck accident made a couple hundred vehicles wait two hours for "clean up".

Saw my first dead body facedown on the freeway asphalt. VERY disturbing. Still can not get it out of my mind. Sorry if anyone here is upset for adding this, but it was something very upsetting for me to see and I hope I never see this again. I have seen motorcycle accidents VERY close up when I was cornerworking at amateur roadracing a few years ago and that has made me pray that all the races I work be accident free. I DEFINITELY do not like to see crashes or the aftermath of such.

My friends, please be careful out there.

Kera, please delete my post if you think it is not appropriate. My wife is in India and I have to tell someone. My friends here were my first thought, actually.

Hi Gokart,

I am so sorry you had to see that. I can only imagine how disturbing it would be to see. There are a lot of bad wrecks on the stretch of road that's between the main intersection and my school... I ususally don't take that route, but I pass some wrecks from time to time. Some of them are pretty bad, and I can only hope that everyone involved is ok.

Usually on average of once a year, a student from my school will be killed in a car accident. This shocks and saddens many people, and shows a reminder that people CAN die in car wrecks. However, I still see people who drive like morons and talk on their phones while driving... They just do not learn.

Gokartmozart--Do not worry... I will definitely not be deleting this post. This is Open Season, and people can basically post whatever they want to. (With the exception of spam or rudeness) In fact, this was the perfect place for you to post, and discuss this topic.

I can understand how you feel. When I was a kid, another kid got hit by a car traveling pretty fast up the highway from the road that led to my house. The next morning I had to wait for the school bus just feet from where the kid's body came to rest, and of course some "spots" remained on the asphalt. Needless to say it left a big impression on me to be extra careful and observant of passing cars, etc.
