Classic 80's movies...

Postby Silver Moon on Wed Nov 08, 2006 7:20 pm

Ok... I have been in a really 80's mood lately, and I am trying to think of some more classic 80's movies to rent. So far, I have seen:

Sixteen Candles
St. Elmo's Fire
The Breakfast Club
Pretty In Pink
Mannequin
Ferris Buellers Day Off

Can anyone reccomend any more?

Thanks!

Here's an obscure one, but it's great. If you find it, definitely rent it. It's called "Pass the Ammo". Tim Curry plays a televangelist and Annie Potts plays his wife. Their tv show is highjacked and hilarity ensues.
It is all entirely perfect--it is as it should be.

Weird Science, love that movie. Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Say Anything, because I am in love with John Cusack. Revenge of the Nerds.

On Nov. 24, the USA network is having a Back to the Future Marathon, showing all three of the movies. I will be watching that. :-D

Oh, geez, I love those John Hughes movies...and I used to have the hugest crush on Andrew McCarthy, sigh. (That part in Pretty in Pink when Molly Ringwald is on the computer and she thinks she is talking to Duckie, and then Andrew McCarthy's picture appears on the screen and she looks up and he is standing there smiling at her? Forget it -- I am a sucker for that scene no matter how many times I see it. :-) )

A few other fabu 80s movies I highly recommend:

Gregory's Girl
Local Hero
Say Anything
The Sure Thing (yes, I love John Cusack too, ha)
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence
The Hunger

Thank you for all the suggestions, guys!!

I have been wanting to rent "Say Anything" for a while--Yet, everytime I go to Hollywood Video, I forget to get it!

Thanks again,

There is only one film from the 80's you need to see (OK, I'm stretching it a bit, and it' is set in the 60's. but...)

Was Richard E. Grant in this? I saw part of it on cable once and it looked very good, but as I was coming in about 45 minutes late (and I am anal-retentive about wanting to always see films from the beginning, ha), I didn't watch for long. I'll have to rent this one for sure!

here is one I absolutely loved when i saw it in the 80s. It is pretty obscure so might be hard to find.
"Ladies and Gentlemen the fabulous stains"
it stars diane lane and laura dern when they were late teens or so. To this day I think of it as one of those movies i can't forget. I haven't seen it for 20 years and now i'm going over to netflix and see if i can find it :-)

Blue Velvet / Dune
Videodrome
The Man Who Fell To Earth (okay, 1976, but recently restored on 2-disc DVD with complete novel in box)
Gremlins

Ok...so that somehow makes it an 80s movie now?

Good call on the 2 x Lynch and the Cronenberg classic Videodrome which is 1 of my fave movies ever.
