I love the screencaps sheisnot posted of David with the cigarette.

I've wondered if he still doesn't sometimes smoke. When his website first went live, there was a picture of him with a half smoked cigarette on the artist profile page. He mentioned drinking wine in an interview last year, perhaps he's not as strict with himself as he used to be.

I often think that you have to take what David says with a grain of salt; he sometimes contradicts himself but maybe that's more an effect of his mood at the time.

Actually, that's very human. I think his interviews since "blemish" show an earthiness that was lacking before, and a very fun sense of humor.

Totally agree.... Perhaps with age came wisdom that he's not an avatar but a wonderful man on a terrific spiritual path which he shares through his musical essence. I have to say listening to that speaking word piece on MYSPACE with the *f* bomb and noticing how he rather savored it falling from his lips.... I see him much more humourous and human!

I remember at the release of "blemish", there was an article in a Welsh newspaper, the reporter (female) being pleasantly surprised (her reaction) to hear David drop a few profanities (all rather mild ones). I've sometimes wondered if David's has struggled with the physical and spiritual parts of his nature, to find a balance for himself and perhaps how much to express or hold back of each when being interviewed. Which would be normal but maybe due to the interviewer or David's self-consciousness at the time, he's often come across as a little extreme, which has been almost a criticism levelled against him.

Quite a change though from those very early Japan interviews, David and Mick didn't hold back in them, lol!

Yeah lately he seems to be relaxing more.... I think part of it is age... much of it is having children (they sort of force you to get over many hang ups) and i do think he probably (like all of us) works at finding a balance. I also think the older you get the less tolerance you have for bullsh*t.... he did mention in an interview i just read recently that he doesn't care for small talk. I'm with him... I can't stand it.

Hey Sonic- I just now realised that link was in the very first post of Baht Habits topic *Palmface* Doy!

... As for the song... His speaking voice is so beautiful and calming. I love it.

My theory is that DS has probably always had that sense of humor, those moments when he just wanted to say "f*ck", but he perhaps felt restrained by his emotions or his philosophies. He has said before that he was painfully shy, yet in interviews he has always struck me as one of the most remarkably eloquent people I've ever heard. Maybe that (sometimes forced?) eloquence was the result of his shyness, and revealing his true humor would be opening up too much. At any rate, it's all conjecture at this point and unfortunately I'm not likely to find out his true nature in person.

I wonder if he has come across this website (he mentioned in an interview that he uses the internet all the time) and if so, I wonder if he thinks we are all completely daft for putting so much energy and love into someone we don't even know.
It is all entirely perfect--it is as it should be.

It's okay, gods. He creeps me out, too, at least without the eyebrows he does, anyway.

I'm into David specifically because he always seemed like a tough egg to crack. He always projects this smoothness in his interviews. (Maybe it's those perfectly groomed arches.) If he came across this thread I think he'd at least be amused by the fact that we'd go nuts over a clip of him being candid and swearing about this and that.
Well, I'd go nuts. :\

It actually took me a really, really long time to notice he had no eyebrows. It was a shock, but I'd been desensitized to bare brows so much by Bowie that now it's bizarre to see Mick with eyebrows. I'm sure he'd be so pleased to know that.

I wonder this too, sheisnot- Sometimes I am nervous that he would be offended of so many Japan fans on here. I have always gotten the impression that he either thinks his fans are only fans of the old stuff, or only fans of the new stuff... But I am sure that there are a lot of fans on this board, and all over that love all of it equally! (Like me)

If am hoping that he wouldn't think we were all daft- Because for most of us, He and Japan are a big part of our lives. David Sylvian and the others are my biggest role models and mean so much to me. They are the last people I would ever want to think badly of me and my site. Sure a lot of us have fangirly moments, and a lot of us admire the band members very much, but it is all part of our passion as a whole!

But I'm just hoping for the best... After all, none of us (I think...) Know David Sylvian or the others personally- So, if they happened to come across this place, there's always the chance that they may think this site is pretty cool!

I should hope so, as well. For the record (just in case DS might read this), I do want to say that as physically beautiful as I find him to be (more so now that he's older), it was his voice, his music and his lyrics that first drew me to him, at a time when I really needed something, anything that I could relate to and be astounded by. I would hope he would be pleased to know that he had affected so many of us in more ways than just visually.
