and some excellent news...
Supersilent with John Paul Jones on bass
John Paul Jones made a surprise appearance with Supersilent at the Punkt festival in Kristiansand this Saturday. The Led Zeppelin bassist played a full set with the band and yes, it was recorded as well...

Bring on Supersilent '12'!!!

bump!

Just received '10' and '11' by Supersilent and have listened to '10'. Simply amazing... This looks like a strange end-of-year list from me this year with probably 3 Supersilent releases in there, maybe 4 if they release '12' in time. And there are rumours that the set with John Paul Jones was also recorded and went on quite a bit, so that might result in '13-14'?

Peace!

Arvo Pärt -- Symphony No4.

His 'Los Angeles' commissioned work, and his first symphony in nearly forty years, is absolutely stunning...

yes it is, and it will make my end of year list. But nothing of Pärt will ever come close to his 'Alina'... [I remember buying it at hmv in London together with NiN's 'The Fragile' and the look on the face of the man at the till when I told him they were both for me and neither was a present...]

Maybe :)

I could not choose a true favourite amongst his output, they all offer something special, and what I enjoy depends on my mood as much as anything.

I love the shift between delicacy and drama with No4... however 'Miserere' is a constant companion for me.

And there is certainly nothing wrong with eclectic taste… why be boring?

A vinyl rip I did of the A and B sides of David's Taking the Veil single, plus the Blemish album, which just gets better every time I hear it.

I was talking to a lovely chap recently who runs the re:Vox Ultravox fanzine, who was genuinely shocked that he'd met someone who likes Blemish. Despte this we had a really interesting chat and his magazine is great.

Jeff Buckley - Grace. Easily one of the best albums of all time!

I've been listening to Dalis Car quite a lot lately even before the bad news (I was very lucky to find a mint copy some years ago for a quid and have finally transferred it to MP3). It's certainly a grower - not one you latch onto immediately, but now I can't stop listening to it.

Has anyone heard Pete Murphy's solo work? I'd love some recommendations.

Peter Murphy Solo: I have three albums, 'Cascade', 'Dust' and 'Unshattered'. I would recommend 'Cascade' and 'Dust' - this last one in particular - a very big album (in the sense of DBoaC being David's big album). There is also a comp called 'Wild Birds', which has the best tracks from albums up to and including 'Cascade'. I would say Peter Murphy is roughly somewhere between David Sylvian and Gary Numan, so...

Yes! Brilliant song.

Lately I've been listening to a really odd combination of Jimi Hendrix, Old Crow Medicine Show, and... Lady Gaga.

Thanks Adrian, Cascade and Dust are now ordered, thus breaking my new years resolution to buy less music this year!

Oh well, it's been a tough week, I'm croaking with a cold, have a ton of work to get through and damned well feel like treating myself.
