Herbie Hancock's 'The Imagine Project'. I am truly digging the diversity of styles and the world class musicianship on this release. Mr. Hancock may just earn another Grammy for Album Of The Year.

It's been a while since I've been actually excited about rap music.

Lee Ritenour - 6 String Theory
This one really took me by surprise because I expected some average smooth jazz collection. But what amazing talent is on display here: 8 legendary guitarists, 4 superb drummers, 5 up and coming guitarists discovered via youtube! The 6 styles of music covered are Jazz, Folk, Blues, Rock, Country and Classical. Yet another remarkable cd released in 2010.

Am listening to Massive Attacks 'Protection', after 'Blue Lines' earlier this morning - 'No Protection' and 'Mezzanine' to follow. What great stuff this is (I bought it all yesterday 'on the cheap' - I did have 'Mezzanine' at one point but that's another story). I would like more music like this during these hot summer days...

Adrian, those are definitely some 90's classics that merit repeated listening no matter how many years have passed. The trio of releases you've mentioned above are tough to top, especially since Andrew Vowles was still a vital cog in the Massive sound. In my opinion, they have never quite equalled the greatness of the first three as the century turned, and right up to the present day. But they have had their moments. I know you enjoy instrumental material greatly, so you may like music from Unleashed (Danny The Dog) or the Brave New World score.

At the moment I am taking in the sounds of "Symphonicities" by Sting and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to some typical tracks, there are plenty of interesting arrangements of some of Sting's more obscure material. I was thinking that, as well as the latest Hancock and Ritenour releases, would make for decent listening down at the shore when the friends and relations come for the laid back barbeque during this holiday weekend...but now you've got me rethinking my listening. :-) I know that at least Protection is going to now wind up in the mix at some point. The power of suggestion....

glad to have been of help Baht... :-)
I think Mezzanine in particular is one of the highlights of the 90s. The dub disc is great too, but of course not really a Massive Attack thing...
by the way - I think a clash of 'Unfinished Sympathy' and 'Bittersweet Symphony' by The Verve would be great... I was turned onto the idea by the similarity of the video's...
Anyway - have a good weekend everyone!

For anyone interested in Arve Henriksen, his old band FOOD have recently released an album called "Quiet Inlet" on the fabulous ECM label. Doesn't feature Henriksen but does include contributions from Fennesz and Nils Petter Molvaer and is quite brilliant!
