David Sylvian - Manafon

From Brilliant Trees through Died In The Wool...

Hi Phil

I've been meaning to email you for a while but I've changed jobs and don't have your email address - can you pm me it?

I'm not sure what to expect from Sylvian's new album to be honest. I've given some of the Erstwhile artists a listen (many of them feature on his new record) and to be honest its not really my bag. Judging by his labels announcement in March that the release will be "uncompromising and bold" I'm slightly concerned that this means it will be "tuneless and unlistenable". Must confess I too have hardly listened to Blemish except the lovely Fire In The Forest. I'm just one of his fans who prefers his more melodic work

I doubt he'll tour this record Phil. It sounds like it'll be almost impossible to recreate live. Then again I said that about Blemish and he toured that. Here's hoping...

I think in fact this is only the beginning of this phase of his career Phil. Sylvian has stated recently that he wants to get rid of his straighforward singer/songwriter image for good and focus on creating more works like Blemish and Manafon. Still there's always another Nine Horses album to hope for!

Hmmm...I wouldn't mind another "Blemish" if he just threw another "Scent Of Magnolia" or a "Damage" into the album, you know.

We'll see.

And I take back everything negative I ever said on the CT site about Nine Horses, Sime.

I'm a big enough man to admit when I'm wrong.

The mystery can now be solved: Manafon is a musical on Bambi, and Disney were making a bit of fuss for the copyright.

Good news. I may, perversely, still order this from Samadhi directly, even though it will ensure I will not get it as quickly as possible. I want to keep supporting the Samadhi project.

(Also, I imagine Manafon will be far more suitable to fall/winter in mood anyway, it will still feel like the height of summer where I live mid-September.)

Thanks so much for the update Richard.
Gee, that is quite a beautiful piece of artwork. I find it somewhat amusing that such a peaceful picture shall be the cover for what could very well be Sylvian's most alienating work. Of course, it could be looked upon as an innocent animal looking in to a darker and dangerous forest of (not-so-brilliant) trees.
:)
And, as previously reported by Mr Abbey, a DVD included as well. Only an ultra-contrarian such as Sylvian would hold off on releasing a DVD for all these years and then issue one revolving around such uncommercial product.

Hey!!

I've been gone for so looooong!!! It's really great news!!!! I can't wait to listen to it. I've been reading some of the discussions about it and how it should sound, and to be honest with you, he's always done interesting and creative pieces of work, so, it'll be great to listen to it, even if it's one of those albums you don't listen that often.

Like Blemish. It's definetely not my most played Sylvian album, but, when I play it in the right place, at the right time it's cathartical and beautiful as one can get, so, I'm really excited about the new album. And the cover is really beautiful too, may I say.
