I don't know if this is official, but I've read on davidsylvian.net and davidsylvian.it that the album is scheduled to be released in summer.

Interesting discussion, and what can I say...
I'm not sure I like the idea of having Evan Parker on saxophone, or to have a saxophone at all...
John Tilbury on piano fells more comforting. Even though Ryuichi has a more tender touch.
Keith Rowe on guitar is scary, but very very interesting.
I have to say that, so far, I have only appreciated Christian Fennesz electronics on his contribution on A Fire In The Forest, I really prefer the choice of Otomo Yoshihide, a more experimental instrumentalist, who possibly can add magnificent acoustic noises to the picture.
And my heart sings of many things

This link is quite interesting:
http://www.davidsylvian.it/forum/viewto ... 3&start=90
More videos at pages 9, 11 and 14.
If you survive to page 14 , don't, please, DON'T click on the last vid. I'm warning you, it's for your own good.

(Special message to anortherncod and ob8: please DO watch that last video, and, knowing that that's considered really really good music in this country, try telling me you'd still want to come to live in Italy afterwards!)

great link thank you very much. It certainly wets the appetite and it will be amazing to hear just how David takes these many elements and blends them together in his own special way. As for that last video all i can say is i can see why the Italian wines are so good, a few bottles of Brunello or Montepulciano d'abruzzo and i think it will be a great song !

That would make my heart smile. I certainly wouldn't make the same mistake I made last tour again. :(

Mind you, the last time I was romantically involved with someone from a forum... oh, that's another story.

Ah, well...

Through correspondence with the gracious founder of Erstwhile Records, I learned that unfortunately Keith Rowe and John Tilbury both corroborated that they did not take part in the same recording session - which disappoints Mr Abbey greatly. He holds these two players in high regard and claims that they make for the perfect combination in electro-acoustic improvisation when brought together.
He mentioned that guitarist/violinist Tetuzi Akiyama and cellist Taku Sugimoto had taken part in one of the sessions in Tokyo, yet wasn't positive enough to confirm if their contributions, or those of Sachiko Matsubara, have made the final cut. He did confirm info from another source that Werner Dafeldecker and Martin Brandlmayr were involved in the Austria sessions with Fennesz and Burkhard Stangl. Keith Rowe also took part during these sessions in Vienna.
Lastly, and perhaps most interesting, he wrote of the possibility of a video centered on the Manafon sessions. I'm not holding him to this since he only offered it as a vague possibility of a DVD release, yet evidently he was informed that the sessions had been filmed while in progress. He also speculated that the cd might be out by late April - which I find highly unlikely since Samadhi Sound does not move in such a swift fashion - I suggested that preorders may start to be taken at that point. I can only hope that he is correct and that my line of reasoning is off track.

Thanks kitaj. I've been attempting to respectfully pick Mr Abbey's brain through Jazz Corner's SpeakEasy. Not just music gets discussed on that forum, so one gets great insight into other facets...In regards to the musicians he deals with daily and admires greatly, he has been very helpful and indulgent - thankfully he is willing to impart whatever tidbits he has learned. He is ever so connected to all of these interesting and groundbreaking artists - due to their shared mutual respect.

possible DVD with Manafon? This is very exciting news indeed. Im actually really looking forward to this release now despite the obvious experimental direction it will take.

Well, no one can be exactly sure as to any official release of a DVD, so it isn't exactly 'news'. It's only speculation since certain recording sessions are reported to have been recorded. Instead of any DVD, such video could easily show up on the samadhisound website or on the samadhisound youtube channel, so that is also a viable possibility. No one has any concrete knowledge regarding this...please don't hold it against me if incorrect - please know that I am not attempting to create mere rumor for the sake of conversation.

This new album of his sounds exciting. I'm slightly worried how it will
come out but this is David Sylvian, the man can't do much wrong.
