Your favourite five songs in the world ever?

Off-topic area for general discussion of NON-Japan/Sylvian related subjects.

I agree that it's impossible to compile a definitive list. Some very beautiful songs which I've been listening to a lot lately (trying not to repeat artists too much):

Damage - Sylvian/Fripp
She Gets Out The Scrapbook - Furniture
The Song of Solomon - Kate Bush
This House - Alison Moyet
Chariots - Transglobal Underground

But I'll probably have a whole new list next week

Really hard. I mean really, really hard. Off the top of my head:

Japan - Obscure Alternatives (Live in Tokyo)
DS - Waves
Porcupine Tree - My Ashes
The Verve - On Your Own...

But I don't think this poll is right or fair! I mean, how can you limit yourself to one Japan song? Or one PT song? Honestly...

Old Friends - Simon & Garfunkel
Whole Lotta Love - Led Zep
A day in the Life - The Beatles
Bouy - Karn & Sylvian
Forbidden Colours - Sylvian & Sakamoto

I love classical. In fact Dvorak is one of my all time favourites but I can't recall the concerto which is my top fav. I absolutely adore the cello...

Oh, The Blue Nile. Still embarrassed I overlooked them

Over The Hillside reminds me of going to see them in Belfast: "Walk me into town/The ferry will be there/To carry us away into the air" because I took the ferry to Belfast. Or, alternatively, with a bit of 'tweakage' - that's a technical term  "to carry us away over the Aire" because when I'm at university I drive over the river Aire every week.

However, Soul Boy is my favourite song of theirs... I think...

What about High? "Look at the morning people/Going to work and fading away" often resonates with me when I'm in a queue of traffic waiting to join the M60...

Now forgive me everyone if I go off topic, but...

Babylon Sisters is a very interesting choice for favourite Steely Dan song imvho.

I'd be inclined towards Third World Man, The Boston Rag, or perhaps the 'toast' of their output (simple yet so effective  ) Do It Again.

Just a thought...
