Fleetwood Mac - Go your own way.

Loving you
Isnt the right thing to do
How can I ever change things
That I feel

If I could
Maybe Id give you my world
How can i
When you wont take it from me

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You an call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way

Tell me why
Everything turned around
Packing up
Shacking up is all you wanna do

If I could
Baby Id give you my world
Open up
Everythings waiting for you

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You an call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way

That gives a lot away Japanfan...

I take it everyone knows the story of the song... Lindsey Buckingham wrote it about Stevie Nicks after she left him...

The London meet-up venue has just made me think of songs I associate with King's Cross (where I used to live until about 18 months ago).

Of course there's the Pet Shop Boys' "King's Cross", which took on a terrible poignancy after the July 7th bombings:

"Only last night I found myself lost
Near the station called King's Cross
Dead and wounded on either side
It's only a matter of time
I've been good and I've been bad
I've been guilty of hanging around..."

Apologies for yet another Furniture lyric (in case you hadn't noticed, I kind of like that band!), but their song "A Taste of You" (although I think they actually wrote it about Ealing) sums up my feelings about the recent King's Cross regeneration perfectly:

"This town, this town
Doesn't look the same
They're gonna give cleaning up the streets
A bad name
The arcades and the clubs
Have been closed down
Now there's rows of fancy bars and restaurants
And they don't want me around
Come back to me."

This is a Peter Tosh song off of the album, Bush Doctor...I really relate to a lot of his songs about struggle and perseverance., picks you up when you need it you know?

Sittin' in the morning sun
And watching all the birds passing by
Oh how sweet they sing
And oh how much I wish that I could fly

And I try
I said I try
I try
I really try try try

But I got to
Pick myself up
Dust myself off
Start all over, again (CHORUS 2x)

Sittin' in the midday sun
And wondering where my meal's coming from
After working so hard
Not even piece of bread at the yard

And I said I try
Oh Lord I try
I try
I really try try try

Sittin' in the evening sun
And watching the same birds passing by
Sittin' and wondering
And waiting for the time for me to fly

And I try
I said I try
Good Lord I try
I really try try try

So long and I just find
It was just a waste of time
So long and I just find
I been been wasting all my time

I've got to pick myself up...

Woah! This thread is getting very serious indeed - but that's no bad thing. Really interesting choice of lyrics guys. I am always amazed at how intensely personal some song lyrics can be. At first you might not appreciate what's being said and then when you take the tiime to really listen you hear something really beautiful, a real gem. Others are more observational and matter of fact, like this from Billy Bragg & Kirsty MacColl:

A NEW ENGLAND (1984):
I was 21 years when I wrote this song
I'm 22 now but I won't be for long
People ask me when will I grow up to understand
Why the girls I knew at school are already pushing prams

I loved you then as I love you still
Though I put you on a pedestal you put me on the pill
I don't feel bad about letting you go
I just feel sad about letting you know

I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
Are you looking for another girl?
I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
Are you looking for another girl?

I loved the words you wrote to me
But that was bloody yesterday
I can't survive on what you send
Every time you need a friend

I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them but they were only satellites
It's wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care

I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
Are you looking for another girl?
I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
Are you looking for another girl?

My dreams were full of strange ideas
My mind was set despite your fears
But other things got in the way
I never asked that boy to stay

Once upon a time at home
I sat beside the telephone
Waiting for someone to pull me through
When at last it didn't ring I knew it wasn't you

I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
Are you looking for another girl?
I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
Are you looking for another?
I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
Are you looking for another girl?
Looking for another girl?
Looking for another girl?
Looking for another girl?
Girl?
Girl?
Girl?

Interesting thread.....

One that come to mind for me include...

"life isn't standard issue, it's customized...." -Beautiful Colours -D2 (it is a song that should have been released and should have been a hit!!)
