Questions For David

Postby japanfan on Sun Mar 02, 2008 7:23 pm

I was thinking of asking Samadhisound if they can pass questions from us onto David, i would then post the answers back on here. The question is would you guys be willing to put questions to him and wait possibly sometime for a reply? Or do you folks think this is a silly idea which i should leave well alone? Its just most artists dont mind doing this for big fansites as long as they are not hassled and given time.

Hello Japanfan - I know that one Japanese fansite/forum e-mailed something similar to David c/o Richard Chadwick at Opium Arts, and David did reply to it, albeit very briefly. So it's a possibility. I guess the thing is to come up with some interesting questions, something he may not have been asked before, but something sensible!!! Anyway, count me in!

Gerrit's old site, davidsylvian.net, did this a couple of times - I believe one of the self-interviews is included in the E&N tourbook cd. I think it's a good idea, but the one drawback on those previous interviews (imo) is that the questions (which probably were screened/chosen by David) were ones that had been asked in previous print/radio/online interviews - didn't really hear anything new in them. Would be fun to try, though.

Heh, I was just coming back to add that I'd like to know about the photos he's posted - everything from what equipment he uses, the humor in them - anything he'd care to say about them.

Also interested in what books he's read and what music he listens to (lately), and did he accompany Keith Lowe on his book collecting escapades during the last tour (still waiting for that article to appear).

Would he consider putting together a book of his poetry (some of which he's made available on his site) and selling it at the Samadhi shop? Has he ever thought about or written a short story or novel?

Ill collect the questions from this and forward them onto Samadhisound, should they agree to this.

I wanted to ask about the tour. What was the most psotive input he has taken out of it? And does he plan doing it again in the future?

Great questions so far.

I'd also like to know what exactly he meant in his pre-tour blurb about putting the old material behind him from now on. Does that include the Nine Horses stuff? And what directions does he see himself moving in?

Are there any musicians with whom he hasn't worked before who would be on his wish-list of dream collaborators?

He's made his feelings about Iraq, George Bush, racism, Western materialism etc quite clear on Snow Borne Sorrow. Are there any other issues that he gets really exercised about?

He's indicated that he no longer feels that happy living in the US. What are his feelings about Blighty these days?

At the risk of doing a Smash Hits fact file, is it true that he's a vegan, and if so, what kind of things does he eat?

Is there a question he's never been asked but wishes he had? (And, if so, what's the answer?)

Good questions, Melaszaka!

I hope he will answer some of them for us.

Hi,

I am a member of japansylvian.com one of the biggest Japan/Sylvian fansites on the web. We were wondering if David could answer a few questions from the members of the site in a Q&A email. We do realise that he is very busy creating the music we all love, however we would be happy to wait some time for a response from our favourite artist. If you could get back to me on this email address stating wither David would be up for this or if i should contact his management directly id be extremely grateful.

This email was sent to the myspace of Samadhisound, we can only wait and hope for a favourable response. Maybe if David is watching this site he can give me an email and get the ball rolling. Lets get as many questions in as possible just incase David agrees.

Thanks for going to the trouble of organising this, japanfan. Very much appreciated. Really hope you get a good response from The Man.

Yes me too! I hope you do better than I did with Mr Simon Napier-Bell! Still no sign of a response from that quarter! Never mind. I'm still trying to think of something interesting that DS hasn't been asked a thousand times before - very difficult! :?

Hi Japanfan! OK, here's my effort! Referring back to Heartofdavid's questions regarding Davids' poetry, I would also be very interested to know if David has any plans to publish his latest poetry?

And continuing the poetry theme, I recently came across this quote by the Irish poet W B Yeats (one of my favourite poets), he said: "I hate journalists. There is nothing in them but tittering jeering emptiness. They have all made what Dante calls the Great Refusal. The shallowest people on the ridge of the earth." I wondered what is Davids' opinion of journalists, and the media in general & has this opinion changed over the years?

I'd be interested in knowing after the well documented fall out with the other Japan members after the RTC project and the fact he has obviously rekindled his realtionship with his brother and Barbieri, what his current relationship with Karn was and if hasn't improved is this a situation he regrets and if so what attempts at contact has he made
