Duran Duran - Notorious

Postby Simonp on Thu Feb 21, 2008 1:58 pm

I'm reading the biography of Duran Duran (Notorious) at the moment and am amazed at the number of references to Sylvian/Japan there are in it. Quite an interesting read. Anyone else read it?

Yep, I have read it too. I'd expected it to be better though. Some years were really passed in a few pages.

I swear that book had to be the worst book grammatically I've ever read.

I agree it was much information that was already known if you were/are a die-hard durannie. However, as a die-hard you just have to read it. LOL

Thanks to Nick & John because I fall in love with David's voice...

Yea I've read the book too, only because it was in the bargain basement for 99p! That just about sums it up really! Yes the Japan references were interesting but nothing that wasn't already public knowledge. I also agree with godsinthesilences: grammatically it probably is the worst book ever written, but I guess you can't expect too much from a "cut & paste" effort! ;-) I liked the photo of the "Divine One" with his hero Andy Warhol - he looks so bored!

Started the book but have not finished it. Kinda like Gods says, not a real quality book in my opinion. The fans that have been around a while know there is so much more to be said than what this book covers. I guess we eventually need an official book sanctioned by the band members, when and if that happens.

Well I see that Amazon are taking pre-orders at the moment for Andy Taylors forthcoming book: "Wild Boy - My Life in Duran Duran" due to be published at the end of August. But I guess all you superfine DD fans will know about this already? ;-) As for an 'officially' sanctioned historiography of DD that would be fantastic wouldn't it? But how likely is that? How long have we been waiting now ... :( I'd really love some kind of official book about the Arcadia project. I seem to recall the "Divine One" himself saying that he wanted to release a book with Denis O'Regan containing all the photos taken by that photographer of Arcadia and the recording of SRTR. Now that would be something .... :-D

Now that would be an interesting book to read. I'd like it to have chapters written by the guys devoted solely to their perspectives... then we'd see how each person truly perceives what is going on.

Hey maybe that is the problem, he needs some assistants (or maybe that should be assistance  ) Ellyn, we should offer our, erm, services for the good of the cause! That Arcadia book needs publishing! And DD deserve something better than 'Notorious', other groups get the big book deals why not DD?

Andy's book should be QUITE interesting. If anyone has read his blog on his myspace page, you already know he does not hold back and tells it like it is. He has a true passion for his craft, definitely, but he is also passionate about how it is done.
I understand that the book he is working on has the blessing of all the members of Duran Duran, if I am not mistaken. And like I say, Andy tells it like it is, so outside of an authorized tell-all this is your best bet.

ok how did i miss there being a book by andy taylor !!!! That will be a must read for sure. His myspace blogs are always well entertaining! HA HA
Should clarify that it is the UK amazon and not the american where you can pre-order the book. It will be a pricey read for the rest of us....
I do love me some andy
