What is your gender?

Postby Silver Moon on Fri Nov 30, 2007 10:45 am

... Just curious, as when the board was first getting popular, and people were signing up, it was criticized as being 'fangirly' with so many females. I never thought that! But... I am curious now as I see a lot more males have been signing up.

Just wanting to know!

I thought it was 2/3 guys 1/3 girls, but I guess that was before your vote gods, and only a sample of 3!

My vote's in.

Curious, is the poll set up so that each member can vote only once? Noticed there were 8 votes so far but only 4 replies - I guess folks are voting without commenting, which is cool.

I would have thought that there would be more guys than girls, that's been the case in any other site/forum I've known of, but it could have meant that the girls didn't participate in discussions as often as the guys. This forum has a different...flavor to it. Still, the number of people who actually participate (versus watch) seems a very small portion of the total.

Another male vote here.
Some aspects of the site do happen to appear 'fangirly' to my sensibilities, but one could say that there is a fair amount of 'fanboyish' content here as well. Just as long as it remains primarily in the section labelled JAPAN, which interests me very little, then there should be no prob.... :-D

I am mail. :D

I just happen to have a girly avatar, so it's okay if you ever thought otherwise! JK!

I'm glad there are other male fans of the band as well, and the New Wave/New Romantic movement in general.

Interesting to see it's 50/50.

Did you really get criticism about the site being "girly", Silver Moon? I think that's outrageous! It really bugs me when people assume that women have no musical taste, can't possibly like a band or an artist because they appreciate the music in a serious way, but are only interested in musicians because they fancy them, and the corollary that if an artist has mainly female fans they must automatically be crap. :x

Personally i think there is a nice combination of opinions on here :-)

Please name me one male who can talk about a girl band/or band with a girl in it without talking about how hot they are and various other man fantasies... ;)

No offence, guys... I'm just sayin'!

I agree. I think it is balanced over here, not just by gender, but by topics as well. The folks that want to be serious all the time, please do so. and those of us that want to be serious and funny, we will!!! And even pissed sometimes (there, that covers all of me---lol)

Gender Issues

Postby Astronaut on Tue Jan 15, 2008 6:51 am

OK I just registered my vote - I'm female BTW!

I agree with the above comments: it shouldn't really make any difference whether this site is predominantly male or female. We're all here because we love the music and if some of us choose to show our support of the guys who created that music in a somewhat adoring way, well - where's the harm in that? Personally, I think there's a great mix of people here, not just in terms of gender, but age range and interests too.

Oh, and I know the 'other' forum thats being referred to - sometimes they take themselves way too seriously - lighten up guys!
