Maybe i am wrong here, but i thought Messenger would be classed as a collabaration here, can anybody define what the word collabaration means :?
Also was Ballad of a deadman not on Joan as a policewomans album?
Anyway i know most people will be saying this track should be on it, and that track should be on it, but at the end of the day everybody should be grateful he is releasing anything at all,you know what DS is like, i am glad there is not a long wait this time, a release of new material every year that will do nicely
All the best Dougie :D
Whats the betting of a limited Edition of Sleepwalkers

deadbees wrote:Can i suggest that Messenger wasn't included as it is a Blonde Redhead track that David sings on rather than a co-write. Same applies to the Joan as Policewoman tracks.
For The Love Of Life I can see being difficult to license, Linoleum is a superb track but wouldn't fit the mood of the album so i can see why Pure Genius was preferred.

wow i thought he wrote messenger ....... you can learn something new everyday  .....well thats probably the reason why its not on the sleepwalkers cd because of the royalties thing ....the same goes ....i suppose .....with the fine track For the love of life .....being wrote for a film and all that .....just a guess

and it makes sense with Linoleum thanks for the entlightment deadbees :smt006

Where's Jacqueline?
I would have liked to see it on this compilation,
with Steve on drums, Mick on bass, Holger on radio tuning
and string arrangements by Sakamoto.
And my heart sings of many things

It begs the question, what does Sylvian consider a collaboration. Sylvian/Fripp was clearly a collaboration. Sylvian seems to namecheck everone he works with these days, Manafon a perfect example.

I'd like to know about Ingrid's Wheels as well....

Also I think some of seeming disparity of the tracks might be solved by the remix thing he's said he's done, bringing all the tracks in line with a common identity? That was the intention I think with E+N and probably here....

Has anyone noticed a...'blimey it's quiet'.....'hmmm it's been years.....and nothing'....'ooo! something's being released'....'not quite sure I quite like that AT ALL'....'blimey it's quiet'...cycle of events?!

The samples in 'Wasn't I Joe?' are from a Beckett play.

The Beckett estate is notorious for refusing permission to use material.
It's possible they won't let him use the sample.

Lawyers representing Samuel Beckett's estate, known for its iron grip on the playwright's works, objected to the use of female actors in the two main roles of Vladimir and Estragon, issuing an injunction against the theatre in Pontedera, Tuscany, to try to stop the performances.

Interesting point. But if the Lawyers respresenting the Beckett estate were so concerned with public performance of his works remaining strictly as the playwright stipulated, (and he was VERY strict and particular about his work - remind you of anyone?) wouldn't they have put some kind of injunction on Sylvians' live performance of "Wasn't I Joe" back in 2004? Would he have had to seek permission to use the sample? If not - fine, but if he did need permission would that have had to come from the Beckett estate or from the BBC or whichever TV/radio company owns the recording he took the sample from? I've already posted this elsewhere, but I think it comes from a US tv production made in 1967.

From a personal point of view i am looking forward to this release, it contains some material i don't have and some old favourites that have been remixed, which could put a different slant on those tracks. One thing i would say ,is that i presume when DS put the concept of this compilation together he thought about it's make up in terms of how it would fit together as an album (ie listening experience) as much as placing all the 'missing' material in one place. The cd will have to marketable to others ,aswell as die hard sylvian fans so the apperance of a few 'marquee' tracks may be a pre requisit.I will wait untill i have heard the album before i make any judgement i think.

Yep i agree with the above comments and will also add that if the remixes were to be somewhat radical akin to the 'Blemish' remixes it will be something to really look forward to :D .

I hope that is the case, and if so, all is good. I will be very disappointed if we wind up buying too many tracks that are identical to the ones we already have.

Whilst i of course will be purchasing Sleepwalkers i am not too confident that David will have remixed too many tracks. I would love if the album comprised of all new versions but that's not going to happen and it's just my heart ruling my head. But the track listing is (relatively) commercial when compared to Manafon so i do wonder exactly what Dave is up to. He's having a laugh i reckon !!!

Disappointed in the tracklisting, as many are. I don't know why we need to see the Nine Horses material again, especially so soon. And Trauma??? Good for those who didn't spend £20odd on the Japanese disc, but still...

It seems to be most of his collaborations from the last decade (Linoleum, Before & Afterlife being the exceptions at a glance).

Time yet for a 2nd disc for early buyers?
