For me it's a bit special cos this year I started to listen David Sylvian's music, so for me that was the best in music this year 2008.

I think I don''t hear so much new music anymore... Hope 2009 I do

Apologies for cross posting from ptf.....

Well, I think it's close enough to the end of the year for me to make my decision. I'm a bit disappointed in how few albums I seem to have bought this year - although there are also downloads (legit) so there may be more I remember later.

Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid - Absolutely my most played album of the year. Optimistic miserablism at its best.

In no particular order......
Arve Henriksen - Cartography - Brings back memories of Jon Hassell at his best.
No-Man - Schoolyard Ghosts - Builds on the previous two.
Shelleyan Orphan - We Have Everything We Need - Who'd have thought these two would be back? As whimsical as ever - lovely
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago - Just Brilliant - if you haven't heard it, please go get it.
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes - Beautiful, helped build the soundtrack to my summer
Joan as Policewoman - To Survive - Very Accomplished, liked it far more than the previous one.
Martha Wainwright - I Know You're Married, But I've Got Feelings Too - Great Songs. That's All.
Tindersticks - The Hungry Saw - Reformation comes good.
Portishead - Third - A long time coming, and what a racket when it arrived.

Reissue of the year:
Dennis Wilson - Pacific Ocean Blue - Wow! I didn't know anything about this until the reissue, great stuff.

Reissue Program of the year:
The Dead Can Dance back catalogue - just a shame I couldn't afford the boxed set of all those SACDs
