Being another huge DD fan like gods (we actually "met" over at one of the DD websites), here is my two cents worth:
Nick Rhodes remembers hearing "Life in Tokyo" back in the day when he was DJing and really liked it, hence probably beginning his interest in Japan.
DD was also heavily influenced by Roxy Music, in addition to all those already mentioned.
I love the first album by DD, as well as Rio, and particularly Notorious---interesting to hear what came together on that album, especially after the Arcadia and Power Station projects.
