Does anyone else still collect vinyl?

I didn't have much from the Japan and early David Sylvian years. So I've been on ebay getting things that appeal to me. I listen to them then I frame them and hang them on the wall. I just got today in the mail a brand new never opened 12 of Pulling Punches. It came with 3 postcards in it of David as well a perfect cover of David. I just opened it and can not wait to go listen to it later this evening :-)!

Yes Gods, vinyl is great. Used to have lots in the 80's, then got rid of some stuff in a 'cleaning out' mood, but in the last couple years I have tried to acquire some items, such as Beatles and Stones, and of course Duran, and Japan/Sylvian. Also have vinyl of Dali's Car, and a ton of Big Country lps and 12" singles.

Oh yeah, definitely into buying vinyl. Much preferred over CD's, especially with the nice packaging.

Between Silver Moon and I we have almost all of David and Japan's vinyl releases, just some singles here and there we have yet to pick up. :-)

Have a cabinet full of vinyl. Mainly D2, Arcadia, David and Japan.

I love reading the liner notes on LPs, - some LPs have even come with "listening instructions" written in the notes!! (Now what exactly was that all about??)

I tend to be a bit of strange one for collecting LPs, - 16 different copies of SRTR, - even one written in Hebrew!!

adore them...
specially the japanses editions with inserts and lyric sheets.
Let The Happiness In, SOTB and Orpheus are so beautiful vinyls.
the paper quality is just great
the Yuka portraits, graphics by Vaughan and photos by Nigel are superb in big format.
another fav is the ink in the well 7" poster sleeve and 12" poster sleeve.
and the Blemish vinyl.
etc... etc...
And my heart sings of many things

Sadly I only have one LP left. But it IS a signed copy of Brilliant Trees, framed and hung on the wall! :D

I would love to have a turntable. My bank manager would love me NOT to have one, because I would then spend even more money on music...

I think I've told the story before of how I ended up with the signed LP, but here it is again...

I found out through reading Smash Hits that David was going to sign a quantity of albums for HMV Oxford Street, and pleaded with my parents to go and get one. But school said I had to resit a biology exam (pah! biology, what use is that? I ended up failing anyway) and wasn't allowed to go...

...however...

My dad got on the train to London and went and bought me a copy :D I still remember him coming up the path and mouthing to me through the window "they didn't have any" while hiding the HMV bag behind him

aw i don't recall that story... but how SWEET is your DAD!!!!!!! That is awesome! That is like my dad coming home with Sting's autograph on a playbill when he was on broadway. He had no idea who's autograph he was getting but when he got home i was thrilled!

Ah, well, I think my parents understood how important my favourite band was to me, after so much indoctrination from me hogging the record player!!!

Very cool about your dad getting the album signed for you!

"Vinyl is all about sex.

The record has a hole. It must be penetrated by the spindle. Once they are joined, the phonograph arm comes down and caresses the record, acting like the lips, mouth and fingers of a lover, coaxing out the music - whimpers and sighs of pleasure, groans of satisfaction.

Upon completion, the record goes back in its sleeve (slips on its knickers), and longs for the next tryst. Meanwhile, the ever ready spindle takes another lover and brings her to ecstasy, releasing her song."

Just a theory.

Anyway, I still collect vinyl, prefer the sound but it just feels like you get more for your money - size matters, or something like that. I like going to record collector conventions - vinyl is the majority medium at these things.
