Porcupine

ok, I have to admit
I try to like it, but haven't really understood yet.
can anybody help me?
where should I start?
I mean, I guess I'm not interested in their harder stuff like metal and trance or...
but where is the ambient, beauty, can-style, hauntingly mystic stuff?
please, I'd like to like PT

I think the albums that come closest to filling those criteria would be "Metanoia" and "Sky Moves Sideways" - mostly in regards to Can-style than the others you listed. I don't think anything by them would be hauntingly mystic, but definitely hauntingly beautiful, like the song "Collapse Light Into Earth" from "In Absentia."

Up the Downstair, Sky Moves Sideways, Moonloop (if you can get ahold of it), and Signify are all great combination of what you're looking for. Stupid Dream is also fantastic, it's more song-based though, but not metal at all.

If you like ambient, Steven also has an ambient project called Bass Communion (http://myspace.com/basscommunion) and a project with singer/songwriter Tim Bowness that sounds like it would fit your descriptions perfectly, No-Man (http://myspace.com/nomanuk)

Are there different versions/songs called "Moonloop" than those on "Sky Moves Sideways" - could you let me know what this is please?

That's an edited version, there's an unedited 40 minute version which is hard to obtain at the moment, I believe it's going to be reissued sometime next year, or at least that was the plan awhile ago.

actually there are two different edits available, and then there is a live version and the full version, which is Transmission IV and which is hard to get but has seen small re-releases over the years.

Metanoia is not to everyones taste - but maybe you also want to try Voyage34 ... bit more trance-like - but also beautiful

All good suggestions, and also I think that Lightbulb Sun is another album worth checking out in the vein of Stupid Dream.

Where is Proggrl on this discussion? She helped me loads a couple years ago, when we first met at the Virgin Megastore in Orlando. She made a few suggestions and also helped me unload some money on some PT--- :-D

Here as always and more than willing to help anyone lose money on PT - Lord knows I've lost enough there. Even on SW's "year off" I've spent more money on him than all other artists combined this year.

Perhaps that isn't a big selling point tho.... :P
Trust the proggrl.
