Now, when it comes to The Blue Nile I would just say; go and buy the whole flamin' lot. I mean, there are only 4 albums!

Did anyone go and see them at the Glasgow/London/Galway gigs that were this week and last? I couldn't, unfortunately, but I did go over to Belfast to see them last year - think I've mentioned that elsewhere here. To sum up my experience I'd like to plagiarise a certain credit card advert:

Coach and ferry travel from Manchester to Belfast: £35
Room at Belfast Central Travelodge: £85
Seeing The Blue Nile in concert and filling up... Priceless!

Mine too...kind of a life changing event wasn't it? Really those two albums and Sylvian take up 90% of my music listening time. New Grass, in the car on a cool, dark fall or winter day...man, sometimes life is good isn't it?

Thanks - listening to New Grass now.

Don't forget Ascension Day, that and After the Flood are my faves from Laughing Stock.

Also to check out:

No-man - Returning Jesus, Together We're Stranger, Schoolyard Ghosts (and the rest)
Nosound - Sol 29, Lightdark
Jeff Buckley - Grace and everything else
Nick Drake - Fire Leaves Left, Bryter Layter (and the rest)
Sigur Ros - Takk, (), Ágætis byrjun
Red House Painters or anything really with Mark Kozelek (ie Sun Kil Moon)
Kevin Gilbert - Shaming of the True, Thud

And with that I'm off for the day - more to come soon, I'm sure. Enjoy!

A few in your list I wasn't aware of Tin Bird. I'll be checking those out. Cheers!

I see what you mean, but Nosoundwould be the only "new" band of these, and I don't fancy them so much.
Sigur Ros are great, and yes, sure, still active, but not that new,
at least not as new as I meant asking for...

I find it difficult to pick out artists keeping to that timeframe - a few tho - Panda Bear/Animal Collective, Sweet Billy Pilgrim, Neutral Milk Hotel. I liked Gnarls Barkley's "St. Elsewhere" album, but haven't heard the new one.

Oops, forgot Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti and The Presets. If someone is willing to give Jrock a go, I'd recommend Gackt.

Great one, I agree! Like Steven Wilson said of them: “One of the most assured and accomplished debut albums I’ve ever heard, the textures and dynamics within the music are breathtaking. A must for everyone that appreciates the art of epic and ambitious 21st century rock music”.
