Hi all,
I guess this should have been my first post, but I seemed to get carried away else where!
Music has been a major escape for me over the years, especially when I was younger.
I first got into music after listening to Tubeway Army's (Gary Numan) Are 'Friend's' Electric? Was like nothing I had heard before, and was the start of a long love affair with Numan's music.
I moved on to other electronic music, Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Tears For Fears, Human League, Visage, Ultravox, you kinda get the picture, and then heard Japan on TOTP.
A friend at school was in to Japan in a big way, so I started to work my way through their older albums, and managed to collect every single 7", 12", picture disc, gate fold, basically every single record released in the U.K and several imports later, I have about 100 Japan records!
I played in a band for about 10 years, was the keyboard player, with the friend from school who liked Japan. We managed to get a fan club, and quite a lot of interest, but originally the general observation was the image was a lot stronger then the music! Must have been all that eye liner and pouting!
So through Japan, Sylvian was obviously an extension of my music education, and his music speaks as loud to me today as it did over 26 years ago, when I first listened to him.
I am mightily peeved that he is not touring the U.S, God am I not happy about this, and am currently planning my escape route, and excuse, to Europe. It seems unconceivable that I will not see him live, I have done the same thing in the past, for the AFITF Tour, though not sure the wife will buy it this time round, this could get ugly!
For someone growing up in the very early 80's in London, I find life in Chicago a little vanilla. Christ, how many combinations of khaki's and plaid shirts can you wear!
I think that most people I socialize with, would have a complete heart attack if they saw photo's of me back in the 80's! But heh, you only live once right!
Peace and Love.
