'European Son'....not because it's the best song (well, it's not) but 'cause I really paid full attention to Japan when I first heard it in '80...I suppose it's catchy enough to be the 'magnet song'

when i first read the post i thought My New Career, then somebody mentioned Still Life in Mobile Homes, then someone else Visions of China....aaarrrggh - so many to choose from - i will need to have a think about this more!!!

The first Japan song I ever heard was "The Art of Parties," however I'd have to say my all-time favorite is "Gentlemen Take Polaroids." That's the tune I'd be most likely to randomly sing in the shower or car - a perfect balance of instrumentation and great vocals/lyrics. I even considered using that title as my high school yearbook quote! (it was edged out by the equally random 'The World Is Not Enough').

My thoughts exactly. Although I prefer Sylvian's solo work, I absolutely adore Japan - from 'Adolescent Sex' to 'Tin Drum' - I don't think there is one song I dislike... and I never tire of listening to them. Still, if I have to choose one, it has to be GHOSTS
