OK. You are only allowed ONE favourite Japan track - Im tempted to forbid you all to choose 'Swing' but that wouldnt be fair...

What's it to be and why?

Ghosts!
Even today, Im surprised that someone so young could have written something so succinct, yet so expansive in atmosphere.

Just one!!! That's very hard!!!

well, after thinking about it for a few minutes , I decided picking Nightporter, because it's the song that made me fall in love with them completely , and still transporsts me to another world whenever I listen to it.

Though I have to admit that with Ghosts is just the same...but it had to be just one...

Kinki, You haven't said your favourite one!!! :P

Gentlemen Take Polaroids... It's the first song I heard of theirs, and I just love everything about it!! All of the instruments, and the voice is so perfect! Plus I just love love the lyrics! That was really hard though... I love all of Japans songs!

No fair!

I agree with Poisoned, definitely Nightporter for me. It wasn't the song that I initially fell in love with Japan to (which was the aptly named Fall In Love With Me, ha ha), but it was THE song that made me understand what a compelling musical force they were. My reaction was just "WOW". The swirling atmospherics just take my breath away. And David's vocals are absolutely perfect, you can just hear the pain and longing in his voice.

OK this really is difficult. I cant decide between Nightporter and My New Career.

Nightporter means so much because it was the first single of theirs I bought back then and so emotionally it means the world as it was, I guess, my introduction to them - even though it's not my favourite song musically.

So, hard decision that it is, it would probably have to be My New Career which I have enjoyed more and more as the years have gone on. It has the same effect as Orpheus on me - 'sit back, relax, take a deep breath, grab a beer and what will be will be'...If Im happy it makes me feel happier, if Im feeling blue it makes me cry like a baby. If Im just feeling normal, I just enjoy listening to the various instruments!

There's something about the first song you heard from a band you get obsessed about. It's like first love - nothing ever means quite as much.

Man, that's really difficult. But if I had to choose, I would state my all-time favorite track from Japan, which is...

**drum roll**

"Still Life In Mobile Homes"

I don't know exactly why, but just something about that track has always touched and moved me. I love the chorus when David hits that low note on "Still..." It's also my favorite track off of Tin Drum.

I also always put that track on repeat when I'm walking down to my college in the morning. It's a perfect song to start your day with. :)

I so agree! It's funky in a strange sort of way - and I love that middle bit where Rich repeats the same phrase with different noises. The (sorry to sound pretentious) interplay between the drums and keyboards is phenomenal..

well i have to agree with krausy, even though today I may enjoy other songs of japan's more... Visions of China has to remain my favourite because it is the one which introduced me to them. Man there are days that i SO miss the 80s.
