runners up are Suburban love and Television---bad a$$ songs!! The whole album is actually great, probably my favorite of the earliest work.

I've always liked 'Performance' because it sounds so dirty and funky.... and David's voice is so suggestive and raw....

Lovers on Main Street brings back very fond memories of an afternoon in a car; enough said.

Funny that, because whenever I watch the video I want to be a rock star!!! I love the way David stumbles around in that rock-starry way...hehehe.

The whole album is really quite funky if you think about it isnt it?

'Wish you were Black', god, it sounds like it was written by someone ten years older...the structure is so sophisticated.

And much as I love it, I've always found 'Television' hard to listen to because it's so intense and disturbing.

It takes a special person to appreciate this and all the other albums----a SMART PERSON---of which WE populate THAT category!!!!

All the other lot are stupid nobodys!!!!

Yeah, I find it truly amazing how they could get continually hammered by the "expert" critics(I use the term loosely of course---after all, I am the Queen of Sarcasm 8) ) That is okay though, they HAVE respect where they want it....................

Which would include David and Steve, who both have said they consider the first two albums mistakes. *lol*

I always have wondered why they are so dismissive about them; I think for a new band they already had a distinct sound. Maybe it wasn't quite the sound they wanted, but the songs are good, they still hold up.

I agree. I suppose at the time, the style wasnt considered cutting edge enough for the fickle fashion driven music industry, and was considered too 'rocky'. But to me the style is highly distinctive, and I remember thinking that the first time I heard it. It didnt even seem that 'rocky' to me - more 'undefinable' and original, something very rare in the world of music these days I think.....
