This is the site for the magazine I mentioned elsewhere. I have the first 7 issues of 8Beat. It's really fun, the storylines run from issue to issue, the original one being a love story between David and Ryuichi Sakamoto. That story plays out in every issue, thwarted love, lol. The original artist was a good friend of Akiko Yano and Ryuichi, I think they schemed up the plot together, lol. David was fully aware of this, I think most of the pop stars were. I have pics of Steve posing with the artist, holding a caricture of himself.

Different artists contributed to the magazine, but there was this one main artist. I believe the first strip ran in Viva Rock (and continue to do so). The compilations of strips made up the 8Beat magazine.

As far as I know, they are only in Japanese, but a lot of the story lines can be figured out just by the pictures; mostly it's romantic-fluff (slashy) with some goofy action stuff thrown in.

There are some pages with individual drawings (in a header or sidebar). The magazines also have a few pages of full color photos in the beginning, generally of the artists who will make an appearanc in that issues' stories.

I've never seen a translation of any of them and this is one of the few Japanese magazines that I've never seen in a Japanese market, only through mail order, which is where I got mine back in the 80s. I wonder if they ever come up on ebay? I've never looked.

This artist is FANTASTIC! They really really look like the guys from Japan! I have seen the characters floating about the boards, good to know where they came from. Best fan art I've seen for any musician.
