From the Artist Shop Newsletter

Steve Jansen & Richard Barbieri/Stone to Flesh (KScope)

New version of the 1995 album with brand new studio track. Features guest performances from Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson and Colin Edwin, and harmonica great, Mark Feltham (Talk Talk, The The etc). 'Stone To Flesh' takes in elements of epic art rock and ambient atmospherics creating a diverse collection of pieces that vary from the dynamic to the hauntingly meditative. This 2015 version features a bonus track - a brand new studio recording entitled 'Map of Falling.' In recent years Richard Barbieri has been a core member of Porcupine Tree playing keyboards on all the band's albums since 1993 as well as releasing solo albums and projects with Steve Hogarth. Prior to this, it was in the new-wave pioneers Japan that he originally came to prominence along with Steve Jansen, & Mick Karn helping to create the ground-breaking synthesiser sound that defined the band and influenced the likes of The Human League, Duran Duran, Gary Numan, Talk Talk and a whole raft of artists to follow. Kscope are set to release 'Stone To Flesh' in a digipack with an 8 page colour booklet.

The 'Electronic Sound' website / magazine has a video of the new track on this re-release, 'Map of Falling', "where contemporary dancer Deborah Messina performs a piece that she choreographed specifically for the new track."

There is also mention of a special edition of the magazine featuring Japan.

Actually, just bought the PDF version of the magazine with its Japan special. It has a great interview with Richard discussing the recording of GTP (the single), an excerpt from Anthony's book and a piece discussing the history of Japan written by Chris Roberts. If I recall correctly, Chris is a great music journalist who wrote for Melody Maker and was always very supportive of the band and their solo work.

Richard mentions having tapes charting the evolution of the writing of GTP - now they would make fascinating listening!

"the ground-breaking synthesiser sound that defined the band and influenced the likes of The Human League"

I don't think so. The Human League were well on their way at that point and I doubt very strongly that Japan's sound meant anything to them.
