David Sylvian, the Last Romantic

Postby Moonshadow on Fri Dec 26, 2008 9:43 am

I'm corrently reading this book by Martin Power, it gave some guide about David's records and some stuff like his lyrics, but I wanted to ask you as fans is this book a good book about David Sylvian is there any others you can recomend abot him?

Well, this one for me is almost a little bible about the must know about David and some of his lyrics and how personal they are...

this book is unfortunately totally incorrect and doesnt tell you anything

the best book is davids lyrics.

Can you tell me more about it, for example how can it be wrong and at the same time give you some correct data about things you know?

And about the lyrics, I have to say the book gave some guide about what to hear first to understand some things. (yeah bit of an idiot, but sometimes I need to put my ideas in order to understand some things first)

and ask us here at the forum as many questions as you want...

I can do both of the three things you recommend, cos here is almost imposible finding magazine interviews... Thank you Chet.

BTW, I have a question (it's silly, but I hope you can help me anyway) Wich record is exactly Sylvian's last record, cos Nine Horses as a "band" project I can not count it.

exactly what i wanted to say chet. this is the best way :D

the last record i belive is when loud weather buffeted naoshima august 2007. and magazine interviews you can find easily by using the search funktion and type interview above or you can go to www.davidsylvian.it
they have a lot of nice interviews just choose interviste then choose inglese. or you can go to www.davidsylvian.com and under texts you will also find interviews.

And from 2003 there is: Blemish
(I was listening to it just now)
The remixes (The Good Son vs The Only Daugther) are from other
artists, but also worth a good listen.
Enjoy yr discovery!!

I thought The Last Romantic was OK...I'm sure there are numerous examples of hyperbole or even outright mistakes, but I think it's a worthwhile read. There is another book out there...super rare...that was a documentation of Sylvian's 1988 world tour called "Eighty Days". It was put togther by his fan club. I have the book and it's an interesting insight into a fan's perspective of the tour. Might be able to find it on eBay on occasion.

Tin Bird, can you please, if possible, give us a little look at this super rare book. Maybe few interesting quotes or scan of the cover. Please :smt100
This period was my starting point with Sylvian/Japan so it is a bit of my favorite period.
And the chance of ever seeing any of it...
