I never heard of these. (except Keith Rowe) Does anybody know them?

Arve Henriksen should be familiar as he contributed to the Nine Horses project. Otomo Yoshihide is a genius of the turntable. The Noel Akchote album contains cover versions of Kylie Minogue records (free jazz acoustic guitar style !). Oren Ambarchi would appeal to fans of Christian Fennesz.

Robert Wyatt of course is most noted for his work in the Canterbury scene (forming Soft Machine and Matching Mole). He's released a good deal of solo albums - that Comicopera album DS lists I still need to get, having only been released last year, but I have several from the 70's. Ruth is Stranger that Richard is one of my faves. He's also done a TON of collaborative works with the likes of Bjork, Gilmour, Jean Luc Ponty, Sakamoto, Eno, Hatfield and the North, a bit of stuff with Henry Cow, and so forth.... Quite a busy man! Oh and a touch of film scores as well.

The only other name in there not mentioned yet is J Harvey, who I beleive is a contemporary classical composer. I'm not TOO familiar with hsi work but saw a spot on him on Ovation some time ago. Seemed interesting from what I recall - at least enough to make me stop and check it out.

Interesting choices. Wyatt's often on his 'top' list.

Was kind of expecting to find Steve's album on there, maybe David though it would be sort of creepy to mention his brother's album.

Nice list! I have three of them (Tinariwen/Otomo Yoshihide/Arve Henriksen).

Tinariwen are a great band of Tuareg rebels from Mali. Seen them live a few times....outstanding.

Otomo Yoshihide's work covers many genres - from sine wave experiments to free jazz. Highly recommended!

Arve Henriksen - trumpeting genius. Enough said really.

I must check out the free-jazz Kylie covers though

That's the one I want to check out. I'd heard of them, but never heard their music.

Just checked out Tinariwen's myspace page and they're great.

Just checked out Noel Akchote's Kylie tribute album. Very clever. But not sure this particular album is for me. Perhaps after a while you stop hearing Kylie quite so much. Makes me want to check out his other stuff though - he seems to be a very talented guy.

Glad to see Tinariwen getting some interest. It is very well deserved

Tinariwen are the only musicians on that list who I've actually listened to, and yes, they are fantastic! I first saw/heard of them on the Jools Holland Show: Later ... and they were by far the best thing on that particular weeks show.

Deerhoof! A San Francisco band I have yet to see.
