David Sylvian Tour Dates in March / April Cancelled

Postby hitch on Mon Jan 30, 2012 11:11 am

It is with great sadness that we announce that David Sylvian will be unable to
undertake the scheduled tour in March and April 2012.

David has sustained a lower back injury that is causing him significant pain and
affecting his mobility to such a degree that, at this time, he will be unable to
perform.

We are hoping that with medical care his condition will improve siginificantly,
and that we'll be able to reschedule the tour at a later date. We're doing all
that we can to bring this unanticipated setback to a positive conclusion.

David will be writing a personal note that we will post online shortly.

In the meantime, should any of you wish to return your tickets for a refund,
please contact the venues / agencies from whom you purchased your tickets.
They're currently being made aware of the situation.

A Message from David: This isn't a message I'd anticipated writing. Unless memory fails me, I've managed to get this far in life without having to pull out from touring commitments entirely. I've had messages from everyone involved in the tour, all very generous and forgiving, willing me onto better health, which in my book goes to show just what a wonderful team of people we had in place. Oddly no news from the tour manager Danny White. Whilst he's one of my favorite people to tour with he may now hold a permanent grudge. Too early to tell. My sincere apologies (and gratitude) to all who purchased tickets for the shows. It appears there were more of you out there than I'd anticipated. I'm undergoing tests and treatment and hope, all being well, to be able to announce a rescheduling of the tour within the coming months. If there's an upside to this situation it's that, with even more time to prepare, the tour will be all the stronger for it. I do hope to see you out there ASAP. Until then .. love and gratitude david

Such a pity. I hope he recovers soon. I did wonder about the walking stick that was in some of the Punkt photos.

I'm surprised that they've said 'cancelled' and not postponed. Not sure what this means in terms of refunds / tickets for any re-arranged performances.

Via twitter/fb they've just added the following comment:

"We have had a few enquiries, and we do want to stress that we ARE trying to reschedule the dates, and will have some more information over the coming weeks."

Sorry, but it wasn't a walking stick, it was his brolly. Besides, according to his fb messages, it was a recent injury, which can happen to anyone.

I was so looking forward to the concerts, but obviously the main thing at the moment is for him to concentrate in getting better, I know people (young and old) with back injury; it can be extremely painful. If reschedule of shows isn't possible, so be it. Just wishing him all the best and a very quick recovery.

This is the picture I was thinking of. I don't think that's a brolly. I hope I'm being over-analytical and that this isn't something more long-term.

It's sad to see him age. he of all people once looked like the eternal embodiment of youth.

And he sported a cane around early 1980 for 'fashion' purposes. The irony.

I wonder if Joan was responsible for the injury?

And yes, what a weird thing to put out publically regarding Danny White.

This is bad news alright, having booked flights and hotel for the London show.

How do I get a refund? I have the actual ticket.

Thanks

p.s. I was looking forward to a few songs from his back catalogue.

enough!

Sad thing is, I thought about the possibility of David being injured to the point of canceling the tour for a brief moment before I purchased my $920 nonrefundable ticket to England, though I naturally dismissed the thought. A couple of weeks ago the thought came to me again; I cannot believe it has come true. Also sad: if new dates are not announced before March 20 I will most likely miss a rescheduled tour. A tragedy not just for David.

I still find it strange that David posted something so blatant as this. Seems so out of character for him?

Well if he didn't hold a grudge before Im pretty sure he's pretty p**sed off now

Hmm, I think he is kind of beautiful to watch age, it is one of the things I love about following his career. His voice certainly gains with the years, to my ears. I also love his integrity in moving forward, and striving to not try to relive his past.

It is sad that this has happened, not least for the horrible inconvenience for so many fans who made massively expensive travel plans around this.

As usual, I wish him well. And all of you.
