The Gone To Earth instrumentals are wonderful Dougie but I also greatly enjoy the sounds on approaching silence. I don't think I've listened to Naoshima in its entirety to be honest.
nice topic Simon can't choose but I guess it will be WWtS even though my favourite instrumental track is Weathered Wall instrumental version (B-side of Ink In the Well)
I voted Mothlight because it's the instrumental track, together with Trauma, I've listened to the most recently. In any other moment it would have been hard to pick out just one.
Looking forward to "When we return you won't recognize us".

I seem to be listening to "Camphor" a lot recently. The reworked version of "Wave" is so good. When Fripp's guitar makes that final run and the looped notes start I just sit and ABSORB it. The swell of the strings and the loop; God it doesn't get much better than that. I think we react to the instrumentals almost viscerally. Some move me, others leave me cold and aloof, but when you find one you love it sticks. "Alchemy" is fantastic, but so Japan like it's silly.
Phew...this is a toughie...voted GTE for its amazing and consistent atmosphere but Steel Cathedrals and Plight & Premonition are firm favourites too...
Agree with Silver Moon about the Wave & Mother and Child instrumentals...they were like finding a beautiful new version of much-loved pieces

I voted Blue of noon, as it inluenced my keyboard playing ever since......................
i just love the piano playing and the changes within the "piece". ah....how i would lovemore of that !
This was a difficult choice,in some ways it highlights what an intelligent and diverse artist david has been over the years, i must agree about the sentiments about 'wave ' and ' mother' from camphor. But eventually i cast my vote for steel cathedrals ,probably because i love the Alchemy album so much and this is a paticular highlight .The Rain Tree Crow instrumental pieces are great too, especially Red Earth
I have spent loads of time recently listening to flux and mutability. It has really grown on me, the warmth and richness of the sound, i must admit when it 1st came out 20 years ago ,i disregarded it some what. Darkest dreaming on "Dead Bees" has similar soundscapes wouldn't you say.
I haven't listened to as much of his instrumental work as I ought to. I have to be in the right mood. The tracks on Gone to Earth are astoundingly beautiful. Nothing has had such a deep emotional impact on me as the beginning of The Healing Place, and the whole of Epiphany.
I have really gravitated towards flux and mutability recently, i think mutability (side 2) is probably my favourite instumental track by DS, it conveys warmth and emotion ,lovely.
