Bad news for American Sylvian fans

Talk about anything David Sylvian related.

I thought the '88 tour was well advertised here in the States.

A spring tour in 2008 that hit a few places here would be nice.

I didn't know that re: the Shamans tour either till Chris' post last night here in which he said that entire tour lost money.

Jim was supposed to see David in Ann Arbor that tour (I would have been there too but I had already moved by then) but the advertising was terrible and not enough tickets were sold and it was canceled. As it had been scheduled for his birthday and he had a front row seat, my friend was understandably very upset and disappointed. (I think this is partly what inspired him to go into concert booking and promoting himself, actually.)

Indeed, now don't quote me on this, but I think about thirty grand came out of Dave's own pocket on the Shamans tour.

I was also going to be at the Ann Arbor show in 2002, I was in fact scheduled to photograph David there until it was canceled and ended up shooting in Chicago instead.
I can't compalin too much though as I also got to see the show in NYC (a really fab show! You can hear me on the bootleg if you have it, I managed to make Dave laugh on stage!).

The trouble I have now is trying to get a bloody frequent flier reward to Italy...The bloody airline only has seats flying into Rome which is a bit of a haul to the Veneto region.
Anyhoo...I haven't had any replies as of yet to my new enquiries...

Really a shame that happened.

Great timing, eh? That's okay. I agree with everything you said. Maybe if he had a caring booker like Jim who would really look after his best interests, David could at least play strongholds like NYC, Toronto, Chicago and LA? Hopefully most of us could manage to get to at least one of those cities(ah, there is nothing like a road trip to see a much-anticipated concert, right?).

Small Update Of Sorts...

Postby MoodyB on Thu May 24, 2007 4:18 pm

OK,
nothing major to report, but I have talked with Keith Lowe, who has confirmed that he is playing on the tour.
He wanted to let David have the honours of announcing the lineup of the band, but he did say that it would be a small group and there would probably be no drums...

...If you haven't seen his new website, please check it out:
http://web.mac.com/moonlinermusic/iWeb/ ... /Home.html

The photo on the home page was taken by myself in 2002, I have promised to send him a better quality scan of the image shortly, so do check back soon!
Also, if you any of you have the chance to talk to him during the tour, he's a really nice guy!

Cheerio for now,
Chris

Now, that doesn't mean that Steve won't be on the tour...Remember, there were no drums per se on the Fire In The Forest tour either!

Sure, the first time was after Forbidden Colours, I let out a "YEAH!" and the second time was right before Bhajan, I shouted out "You rock Dave!", which made the whole theatre laugh!
What can I say, sometimes I turn into a silly fanboy!

gosh i can't believe how behind on this information I am. To say I'm sorely disappointed is an understatement. There is no time to get a passport by the september dates. I saw on the news the other day that 11 weeks is now the minimum time it is taking. Unless you can somehow make it to a major city where they have an office and you can get your passport in about 24 hours. I live in nowhere'sville so there is no chance of that.
Man I was having a crap day and this just tops it off.

I'm very sorry David lost money on his other tours in the usa, but to be honest i think the promotion was sucky. I never even heard he was touring in 2002.

Gosh if he would play just an east coast and a west coast location he may be surprised enough to do more dates.

Oh and i agree with statements made about it being a world tour. Apparently the USA is on his shit list. I don't think it was the fans fault his tour did poorly.

Oh well..... this just makes my life more sucky....

I really can't imagine a David tour without Steve these days, not unless it was going to be another solo acoustic event of course.

BTW, Isa, I will be going to London after all as well! Maybe we can meet up there?

Wait -- why wouldn't 11 weeks be enough? I just counted on my calendar and unless I am even more tired than I thought, eleven weeks counting from next week puts us in the second week of August. I was planning on flying out around the 8th of September if all goes as I hope it will. I guess there is always the gruesome possibility that it could take longer than 11 weeks, though, which I can't bear to consider right now.

In any case, sweetie, I totally commiserate with you tonight and I am feeling more and more anxious about all of this. Looks like I can count on more insomnia tonight. :(
