Music Recommendations

Yo, dudes!

I was wondering if anyone had any music recommendations :-D I'm not picky about the genre or anything. I've hit quite the musical rut as of late.

Welcome!

Well, since you've asked for it: here's something from a modern classical composer going into pop:

Dutch guitarist / keyboard-player Michel van der Aa: The Aleph, featuring Australian singer Kate Miller-Heidke, from the album Time Falling (2019):

Welcome :) ..... Lots of stuff in this part of the forum.... But, I'm going to go with something slightly different and that is Invada Records, which specialise in original soundtrack scores, although it's not exclusively OST's. Started and still run by Geoff Barrow of Portishead, they work with some amazing musicians that produce often quite left field work, for equally original film and TV.

I'm a huge soundtrack fan, and believe it's wonderful place to find some original, unrestrained, experimental music... Listen to DEVS ost by Ben Salisbury, The Insects, Geoff Barrow and the remarkable Monos by Mica Levi.

From the Invada-label I have the soundtrack Mandy by Jóhann Jóhannsson. There's a link to David Sylvian here: Skúli Sverrison plays on it.

Ah cool... I love JJ's work, his Arrival ost is amazing... such a shame regarding his death.

Another great ost on Invada is Acradia (Adrian Utley & Will Gregory) esp. if you enjoy some analogue synth goodness, or 'old shit' as Adrian puts it :D

Oh, I am an absolute sucker for anything synth related :smt007 I live in the old stuff a bit too much though, as I don't know much outside the 1977-1988 box.

Thanks for the recs guys! If you have any more, keep posting 'em. :D

Thanks. Just listened to some of it through Bandcamp and I know what you mean. Reminds me of the soundtrack Cliff Martinez did for the series The Knick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fX4iqI8SYZM

While I was going through the Invada-catalogue I found Adam Taylor's score for The Handmaid's Tale, a series that made a hugh impression on me, so I was glad it was on CD and ordered it right away!

There is some wonderful stuff to be found there... glad you found The Handmaids Tale ost. I'm waiting for DEVS to come out on physical, but in the meantime I'm tempted by Dark cycles 1&2 amongst others.

I love a lot of Cliff martinez work.. Drive and Solaris are both amazing to name but two... I don't want to turn this into an OST thread and send it off topic, but have a listen to Edith Bowmans Soundtracking podcast, if you haven't already... She has some amazing guests from the world of film scoring, and film/TV in general; it's a brilliant listen.... and there is close to 200 episodes

Hi,
Welcome.
There is a world of good music out there, Try Abba and tune a radio to a station you have never heard before and give it a listen and stay with it. Works for me.

Now that I think of it, I admire those of you who are able to stick with just one radio station for an extended period of time. The second I touch a radio I'm flipping through all of the channels incessantly, looking for that one "good" song. Needless to say, you may not want to get in a car with me anytime soon. The music is great until I forget to hit the brake x)
