Update and further news on Richard's involvement with the Grice project.

Highly Strung (Richard Barbieri Remix) by GRICE was selected personally by Tom Robinson for airplay on his acclaimed BBC Introducing MIXTAPE Radio Show on BBC 6 Music (26/08/13) and has been listed in the BBC 6 Music Blog.

Highly Strung from the album Propeller by GRICE has been re-mixed by the master of sonic innovation Richard Barbieri (Japan, Porcupine Tree) and will be physically released in Sept 2013.

Richard will also be working with GRICE on the next album along with master percussionist and arranger, Hossam Ramzy (Peter Gabriel, The Last Temptation of Christ). Work is underway on sketches for the second album with 05Ric re-appearing on drums and Al Swainger on double bass, bass and soundscapes and Luca Calabrese on freeform trumpet..

Propeller was one of my favourite albums last year. The two singles GRICE released are very fine too; I realy loved that version of Love Theme (Blade Runner). Of course it was a nice coincidence when Richard joined the project.

The album from producer Lee Fletcher is well worth listening to also.

Just noticed while watching the album teaser on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YB5pZ9dz9k that Steve Jansen will be performing on it as well.

Some more info from an email from GRICE:

"The 12-track album is produced by GRICE & features Richard Barbieri (Porcupine Tree, Japan, Hogarth & Barbieri) on keyboards, synthesisers and as co-producer on a number of tracks.

Alexandrine has been mixed by Steve Jansen (Japan, Rain Tree Crow) who also lends his unique percussive input, tonalities and treatments.

The album features musical contributions from a unique line-up, including Hossam Ramzy on percussion (Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel), Italian freeform trumpet player Luca Calabrese, BJ Cole on pedal steel guitar (Felt, T-Rex), Suzanne Barbieri (vocals) and violinist Steve Bingham (No- Man). The core band comprises of Al Swainger on bass and 05Ric on drums (Gavin Harrison).

ʻAlexandrine is a multi-faceted rare gem, an intricate play of changing colours and unique rhythms diffracted by GRICEʼS passionate vocals and powerful songwriting.ʼ

ʻThrough sonic musical sculpture, instrumental eclecticism and Proustian detail, Alexandrine entices the listener to embark on a voyage through continents and cultures. Alexandrine arouses celluloid fantasies and narrates a kaleidoscope of emotions.ʼ

Richard co-produced two tracks and arranged four.
And, together with Grice and Steve, he's also responsible for "tonalities". I wonder what they mean by that. ("Ok, guys, this next song is in C." "No it's not, it's in F#." "F#?!? But... why?" "Because I said so! Now shut up and get on with it.")

P.S. Can't wait to hear the Proustian detail.

to be fair though, that 'tonalities' does makes me travel back in time, all the way to the 'atmospherics' on Gone to Earth..

Alexandrine arrived today. I like what I've heard so far. It's all quite tonal ;-)
