Talk about anything Japan-related.

I was wondering if any of you could help me?

Does anyone have any keyboard chords to Nightporter?
I've googled it but nothing has come up for keyboards.

Ah crap, really? That would be so awesome to be able to play too

If you have the melody, you can guess at the chords that go with it- although it might not come out the same

Sorry I can't help

I've wondered the same thing - I just hope that one day I'll magically discover them by accident ;S Ha
Not that I'm good at playing the main tune either (just goes to show how much I know about playing the piano when I use the term 'main tune').

Oh well...

Nightporter is not difficult to play and with a little perseverance you will get there, I have seen someone playing it on YouTube where you can get a real close up of the notation for the song. It's really a simple song and therein lies it's beauty.

Hello, Suzannah and all Japan Sylvian fans, :D

I play Nightporter (album version 7 min). I may say it´s not too hard, the notes are very close to each other.
I will upload it on youtube!
But at the beginning it´s a little bit hard to manage accompainment (acc.) and melody at the same time. But I suggest you to play only the melody first til it becomes automatic and then, go to the acc. With time you must play both but looking at the acc, specially, cause the notes are not so close to each other.

Best regards, :smt006

Hi Fabi, though that was nice, unfortunately it is not going to help suzannahsylvian.
As has been mentioned it really is not that difficult, I am at work right now so just working off memory, so if this is not totally correct then forgive me. I am using this http://www.sciencebuddies.org/mentoring/project_ideas/Phys_img024.jpg
As a reference ok, and I am going off of memory and haven't actually seen a music sheet for this, so when I use to play this years ago it was by ear, so someone might be able to correct this if it's wrong!
The bass part (played with your left hand) is A1A2 E1E2 (If I recall this is played throughout the intro and verse)
So the intro would be
A1A2 (left hand) A4E5 C5(right hand)
E1E2 (LH) G4 D5(RH)
repeat
Then the melody in the verse which would be played with your RH
A4 B4 C5 D5 C5 B4 A4 B4 C5 D5 C5 B4 A4 B4 C5 B4 G4
A4 B4 C5 D5 C5 B4 A4 B4 C5 D5 C5 B4 F5 E5
Sorry I am struggling to remember by just looking at the picture of the keyboard what the next notes are, and I don't want to feed you too much incorrect info! Probably should do this with a keyboard in front of me!
Also depending on what you are playing it on, you might need to switch the octaves of either or both hands.
There is a music sheet for this some where, though I can't remember if it was written for guitar or piano?
It really is actually quite basic, and once you get started on it, you might surprise yourself by working out the rest.
The left hand as I said I am pretty sure is the same, and then it switches up a few keys. Sure someone else can add to this!
And there you stand, Making my life possible
Raise my hands up to heaven, But only you could know

Hello, Burnsjed (and all Japan/Sylvian fans)!

Thanx for your kind words!

Oh, ...like me... I played it by ear but I wrote all notes and chords!
I never found Nightporter chords and melody in some website.
So, your reference is gonna help us and Suzanna! Thanx! :-)

Let´s go...

INTRO = ACC.1 (could be):
LH: A2 E2
RH: E3 C3(separately) E3 G3 (together)

OR (easier to play with the melody):
LH: A2 E2
LH: A3 C4(together) E3 G3 (together)

MELODY 1:
RH (CORRECT!!!):
A4 B4 C5 D5 C5 B4 A4 B4 C5 D5 C5 B4 A4 B4 C5 B4 G4
A4 B4 C5 D5 C5 B4 A4 B4 C5 D5 C5 B4 F5 E5

ACC.2:
LH: F2 E2 C3
LH: F3 A3 (together) E3 G3 (together) (E3 G3 'esier than E2 G2')

LH: B2
LH: D3 F#3 (together) and back to the ACC.1

MELODY 2: The fear in my heart that...
RH: A4 A4 B4 C5 B4 A4 G4 C5 D5 E5 D5 B4 F5 E5

CHORUS 1: Here am I alone again...
LH: D3 A2 B2 E2 (or E3)
RH: D4 G4 B4 (*) A3 C4 E4(*) B3 D4 F#4(*) E4 G4 B4(*)

(*) I alternate the notes together and separately (you can listen it in my cover version)

CHORUS 2: Nightporters go...
LH: D3(**) D3(**) C3 (**) B2 (**)
RH: A4(**) B4 C5 B4 A4(**) B4 G4 (**) A4 F#4(**) B3 D4 F#4 G4 F#4 D4 and back to ACC.1

(**) Play those 1st notes together

Burnsjed: and I don't want to feed you too much incorrect info! Probably should do this with a keyboard in front of me!

Oh, dear, don´t worry! I´m here to (try) help too! :smt023
Let´s see what´s gonna say our pal Suzanna!
I guess this is enough to play this song (video version, 3:30 min aprox.)!

Best wishes to all! :-D
Best wishes!

Dear Readers,

I was intending to create a topic about music sheet or just to share some musical experiences by covering songs by Japan/ Dolphin Bros./ David Sylvian or related.
At the same time, I don´t know if it´ll be read in a sense of being necessary to create that topic.
Anyway, as you know I posted my cover version of Nightporter with sheets (above), problaby the closest to the original version cause I just played by ears.
So, I´d like to share another cover version: Dolphin Bros. My winter.
Hope you enjoy it and thanks a lot for watching!

Thanks Fabi for the Nightporter music. Yes, there is sheet music of Nightporter on the Yahoo Group when you sign in, but it's an unplayable computer-generated bad rendition, unfortunately.

Still looking for the real, correct sheet music for Nightporter...

I always thought David Sylvian's voice had a cello timbre quality to it, so here's an arrangement for piano and cello my brother and I made, played by my daughters.

Re-upping the sheet music, as the previous version seems in accessible.

Hope this works:
