Reviews of Live Shows 2007 - WARNING: Spoilers!

My friend Linn had an awesome evening yesterday. She plays bass herself so she was focussed on Keith!
She thinks David has a very warm voice and she loved every minute of this gig. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures.

In Eindhoven I recall that the man beside me said how much he loves the Dead Bees on a Pancake album that was funny!
After each song he turned to me and said: Beautiful! Beautiful!

I don't know what more to say, it was a special gig. And it was great to see some very nice people again that I've met at previous gigs.

Hi Bridget -

I think I saw you sitting on the first row with your friend but did'nt see you after the show anymore

we sat four rows down and had a great view there - overall my short impression of the gig was :some was good, some very good, nothing extraordinary though

Setlist more or less as over the past few gigs no changes there - show was a sellout despite very steep ticket prices (EUR 50 incl charges for me) and crowd was v appreciative

on the plus side
- Steve's playing: awesome
- David' s voice: wonderful as ever
- Keith who played very well and seems the most relaxed guy onstage
- World Citizen, Sugarfuel, Ride, Playground Martyrs/Transit, FitF, Snow Borne Sorrow

on the disaspointing side:
- Watanabe: i first thought he was some prop you get when buying a Yamaha Grand - and then he was hardly a factor in any of the soungs - much like Chisholm - undoubtebly fine players but their contributions were minimal
- Soundmix esp at the beginning - the lows of Davids voice clashing with the low tomes of the bass - got better as gig progressed
- The ' new' arrangements of the 1980's stuff: for me those songs were not done any justice - to a large extent due to DS strumming along with it so that the specific rhythmic cadance was lost amd the the ' spaciousness' that creates room for the voice was lost - also it makes things a bit too campfire-like. imho of course

let's see how i like it second time around in Madrid

just to make sure: very glad I went - but could have been (even) better imho

That's right, me and my friend got out very quickly. I did look around in the hall if I saw you so next time in december with PT?

Your favorites are mine too! And yes, I think the sound got a bit lost in the room sometimes esp. the low tones.
But I'm not a good at reviews, I'm so very very happy to be able to see them play. Funny thing is I seem to look at Steve more because I really like his drumfills and I like how Keith and Steve play together.

I'm sure you'll love it in Madrid together with some very nice friends

Nothing more to add actually. The shows in Eindhoven and Amsterdam were soooooooooooooooooooooo wonderful. David simply is a heavenly angelic genius!!!!!!
And it was sooooooooo nice to meet you Britt! I will post links to the really good vids I made when I get back. I recorded a full version of World Citizen which made my shoulders hurt badly the next day .
Still looking forward to more. See you in Groningen.

I am so happy everyone is still enjoying the shows!!! I wonder if we have any fans here going to see them in some of the more obscure countries for touring... for example macedonia and russia. I bet those reviews would be good

Hi all,

I was also in Eindhoven and really enjoyed it! The sound was BEAUTIFULL!!!
Better then Brussels and Conegliano. I have to admit that I don't like the flutist! Theo was much much much better! He was improvising more and added more life to the music. Davids voice was beautifull as always
And Steve drummed as astonishing as ever! Also Keith and Takuma were playing great!
I really enjoyed it!! Best sound quality and I would love to see a recording!!!

here a negative review (in Dutch alas) in Het Parool after the Eindhoven gig on monday

for the benefit on people who are not as fluent in Dutch the writer claims to be a big fan but was disappointed with the show saying it never came close to the magic on the recordings - possibly due to him not having the great musicians with him on tour he usually works with (!) and due to it all sounding a bit same-ish. He also mentions the reworkings of tracks like Ghosts and Brilliant Trees lacking the quality and beauty of the original

Well, I got back late last night after being 24 hours in transit and 48 hours without sleep...I've managed to get a bit on the sick side here, my glands are swollen like golf balls at the moment!
So, I'm going to save writing a review until I can think straight!

I will be working with the images in the days to come...Shooting was a bit of a challenge, the lighting was pretty low, found my self shooting wide open at about 1/30th of a second and lower!
In the meantime, here's a couple of shots for you...One of myself before the show and one from the show itself.

What a shame that a lot of reviews have wrong info in them so let's keep kicking their bottoms! I would love to see a recording too.
Chrissy has a nice video on the way so that's something to look forward to!

I could write soooo much about every gig, but as Jazer said: BEAUTIFUL! That word says it all.

Well, sisterlondon I'm sure they haven't forgotten the birthday girl!
