You think? In places it is, but in others it is very 'overdone' I find it hard to listen to the Chorus of Darkest Birds - distorted to hell.

That's one of the main disadvantages of these crowded recordings - it's not that they sound 'muddy' it's that they are so tiring to listen to.

Yeah, that was the song in particular I was thinking of!

I don't hear it like that at all- popped it into the little boombox I have next to me, have it playing now - while the sound is dense the instrumentation is clear, the drums and bass distinct, the trumpet floating above it all, even David's double-tracked vocal and background 'ahhh-ahhhs' on the last chorus - no distortion, not to my ears.

If I can hear clearly I'm not the one with the ear problem, or the system problem as the case may be. ;-)

Mmmm.... That chorus is prob my fave part of Darkest Birds - and it's my fave song from the album. Yes it's louder but doesn't sound distored to me. Sound quality aside - I just love it for other reasons. I could listen to it all day.

Having said that, it is a shame a lot of these albums are overdone. As VT said, see Rush's Vapor Trails for reasons why this is a bad idea. If we get more consciensious masterors like our Mr. Trevethan, then perhaps we could put an end to it. Unfortunately the kids today (God, that makes me sound old) are growing up used to listening to music like that, and think it's good. If they only knew.

Hey,

The only thing I've heard strange in 'Darkest Birds' is what sounds like a very piercing, high-pitched beep in the chorus. It's right in time and sounds like it was put in on purpose! ... I have asked other people and they haven't heard it. My parents hear it... Have you?

Do you hear it in each chorus? At what point? Can't say that I've heard it but if you pinpoint where, I'd like to try and identify the sound - curious!

Please excuse my ignorance here.
Is the problem that people are having, playing their CD's through itunes, or that they have purchsed the said music through itunes, and then think their is a quality sound issue?
Personally I have only ever bought about $10 worth of music through itunes, and thats due to a voucher I was given.

Also on a side note, why is "Get the hell out", being called "Get the Jersey out"? Am I missing something?

Edit: Aha, h e l l comes out as Jersey, strange bit of censorship!

HeartofDavid,

Mhmm! The times I hear it during the first chorus are: 1:17, 1:28, 1:38, and 1:49. It's in the second chorus, too. On some systems you can hardly hear it and on others it hurts your ears!!

And about the word cencors--> :-D ... That's just me being a goof!

Yes, I've heard that too. It's very strange, hurts my ears if I'm playing it loud.
