David Sylvian WEATHERED WALL

My faveourite ever song, i recently discovered, is Down To Earth by Curiosity Killed The Cat. I love the lyrics in it and the imagery they conjure.

But my other faves are:

To Be With You Again- Level 42 (They played this when i went to see them live and i yelled "OH MY GOD I LAAAAAAAAAAV THIS SOOOONG!")

Masionettes- Heartache Avenue

The Chaffeur- Duran Duran
Yeah, intelligent input darling why don't you just have another beer then.

The five best songs ever? ... Impossible to choose! How about the five best from five different genre's? Or the five best from five different decades? But for this moment, at this time I'll attempt to pick five out of the air:

David Sylvian - Ride (really hard to choose a favorite DS track. I was first thinking of September - short, minimal, and ends like an unanswered question... but Ride is just so right with that incredibly breezy feel.)

King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King (For me the quintessential progressive rock song. This song has a special place for me as I remember hearing it on the radio in 1969 when I was a kid. Even then, knowing nothing of music it stuck with me.)

America - Ventura Highway (This song always puts me in a good mood, it evokes that wonderful feeling of driving down the road, escaping everything. Beautiful vocal harmonies, excellent groove. Horse With No Name is right up there too.)

Boards Of Canada - '84 Pontiac Dream (Thanks Vapor Trail! - Intelligent Dance Music: "IDM" - everything is just right: groove, tempo, melody, the sounds, the vibe.)

Three Dog Night - One Is The Loneliest Number (A very special song for me, the first one to ever give me "the chills" when I heard it around age 11 or 12. That feeling hooked me on music, though I seem to experience the feeling less and less as time goes one. The last tune to do it for me was Porcupine Tree's "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" from their Deadwing album. Thanks to Proggrl for introducing me to PT!)

Yes I know - I managed to sneak in three extra song references in my list of five.

J.T. Ride is one of my all time favourite David Sylvian songs for all the same reasons you mentioned.

Ta for your responses guys. I am wading through the recommendations, with the help of YouTube, the iTunes samples and mp3 searches on altavista...

Reactions so far...

Janet Jackson stole the guitar from that America song - yes the harmonies are indeed v nice.

I really am frustrated by the paucity of Porcupine Tree on iTunes...

I need to listen to Sandy Denny more because the song heart reccomended is something quite beautiful.

I need to hear all of Ride - I bought Everything and Nothing on CD but somehow, having played it once at christmas when I bought it I lost it.

I subsequently downloaded from iTunes all the songs I remember being taken by but I don't have Ride.

And iTunes will only let me download Ride if I buy the rest of the album. Which I don't wanna do cos I already have it on CD/majority in mp3 too...

Grrrr :(

I am really frustrated by iTunes everything actually...

Forgive me if this sounds really cliche or something:

But my favorite music is stuff like The Cure, Buzzcocks, JAPAN, Magazine, and many other punk outfits and NEW WAVE groups.

There's just too many bands to list here, but at least I gave you some of my top favorites! :D

Obviously just picking 5 songs isn't easy, but hre goes nothing, and I am basically looking for songs that I always go back to, so they have had to pass the test of time!

In no particular order.

Maria Callas - Catalani: La Wally - Ebben? Ne Andro Lontana
David Sylvian - Before The Bullfight
Suede - Asphalt World
Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamonds
David Bowie - Starman

Hhhhmmm guess I will go for those, though could easily pick 5 others by totally different artists.
