2022 Albums of the Year

Postby Tin Bird on Wed Dec 14, 2022 7:45 am

Didn't I just post 2021 a few weeks ago? Ugh...what's going on w the days and time? I think I am getting old. :-(
My list is getting shorter every year...but here is what I came up with:
Erik Satie - Fragments
Various Artists
The Beatles Revolver remix
Pan-American Patience Fader

will add more later if/when I think of them

The trouble I have this year, partly caused by Brexit and the VAT-war, is that a lot of albums I discovered (and/or received) this year actually were from 2021. I often ordered a CD in 2021, but often took more than 1 1/2 month before I got it at home and then it was 2022! Here are some I'd wanted to put on my list of 2022, but are actually from 2021:

The Gong Farmers - Guano Junction
Sarah Perrotta - Blue To Gold
Kumorigahara - Kumorigahara
Andrea Chimenti - Il Deserta La Notte Il Mare
Octarine Sky - Close To Nearby

Well, from 2022 are:

The Fixx - Every Five Seconds
Archive - Call To Arms & Angels
Simon Phillips - Protocol V
Snowy White - Driving On The 44
Shearwater - The Great Awakening
Erik Dahl - Music For Small Rooms
Nits - Neon
Held By Trees - Solace
Beth Orton - Weather Alive
Ron Trent Presents WARM - What Do The Stars Say To You
Patrick Watson - Better In The Shade
Alice - Eri Con Me
Grice - Polarchoral
Beady Belle - Nothing But The Truth

Going to have to give your list a listen...the first album (of which I had not heard) by Benjamin Lackner is terrific!

Thanks to all for your lists. Nice to see the earlier mentions of Beth Orton and The Smile. (Interesting that Tom Skinner plays on both.) Here are my favourites from 2022, in alphabetical order. Maybe quieter than the usual picks, could be a reaction to my own age or just the shared societal age we're all wandering through.

Oren Ambarchi - Shebang
Croatian Amor - Remembering Rainbow Bridge
Jeremiah Chiu & Marta Sofia Honer - Recordings from the Åland Islands
Brian Eno - ForEverAndEverNoMore
Floodlights - Let All The Light In
Aoife Nessa Frances - Protector
Luster - Luster
Yuta Matsumura - Red Ribbon
Beth Orton - Weather Alive
The Smile - A Light For Attracting Attention
Carmen Villain - Only Love From Now On

With new albums by Depeche Mode, Patrick Wolf, The Lilac Time... 2023 looks quite promising! ;-)
Not to mention what's w this "Do You Know Me Now" box set?
