You're right, sheisnot, she died of AIDs, I had that wrong. I thought I remember reading something about her being ostracized by some of her family, and that some sort of trial/inquiry took place after her death.

'Paid in Full (Coldcut remix) - Eric B & Rakim', it think she was from Yemen?

Well for me it's pretty much everything, but as my moniker gives away, it's lots of Prog or hopefully more in the way of truly being progressive bands. I've become too cynical and plumb just don't have time for prog bands that aren't progressive, but sound like every other band - and there's loads of 'em these days.

Having said that - there are still bands that are coming out and doing something new. That's what I like. Then there's anything that has any emotion in it (not emo, m'k). I'm a sucker for those old sappy 70's love songs (cos I'm a hapless romantic) I'm also a sucker for anything that'll make me dance. Then there are those times when I just need to get out all my agression and need some metal - but it has to be good, not mindless. I do enjoy a good amount of classical. Love Jazz of all types. Classic Rock, guitar rock, any kind of rock really, mostly if it's done well, and that does include some 80's rock. Some 80's pop too. ;)

I guess I just like 'good' music.

Favourite bands:
Echolyn #1
Porcupine Tree (of course! That'll include all SW projects)
Kate Bush (I bow to the Goddess!)
Tool
Marillion
Sylvian (duh!)
John Wesley (The Mighty Wes-Man!!)
VdGG
Gentle Giant

New bands I'm really digging:
The Mars Volta
dredg
Lots of Devin Townsend
Nosound
Pure Reason Revolution
Riverside
Trust the proggrl.

I like both these bands very much, discoveries made in vinyl cutout bins in the late 70s. "Godbluff" and "The Missing Piece" are my favorites respectively, still enjoy the sounds of those.

I think there was controversy involving her family not waiting to disclose that she died of AIDS-related problems; I think initially they just told everyone she died of massive organ failure. I'm not sure if there was any legal issue involved--I don't know that much about it.
It is all entirely perfect--it is as it should be.

I live in county of Santa Barbara. Specifically, an hour north of S.B.

I've you've never heard of Santa Barbara, there was a soap opera set in the town in the 80's and most recently, another S.B. county town was host to the Michael Jackson mollestation trial.

Well, I'm only lucky because my family happens to live in the area and I grew up here. Other than that, S.B. seems to be a microcosm of the hippest and trendiest in clothing shops of L.A. It's changed a lot since I was coming here in the 80's. Beautiful? yes. But after my first attempt at college in the early 90's in Seattle, I miss the edge and availability of things in the big city.

I miss having 30 different Japanese restaurants to choose from instead of only 8. I miss having things open 24 hours. Miss gay bars, there is almost no alternative or gay scene in S.B. as it is suffering huge gentrification.

Once I'm done being a "returning college student" I'll be going back to a big city.

No, he did not get mollested, but the mollestation charges that he was accused of happened in Santa Barbara county.

LMAO- Sorry to change the topic of Michael Jackson Mollesting... But about the music I am listening to- I have put the Talk Talk Tape back in my van again. (It's not really a tape- I just call it that!) I have been Listening to Japan, Sylvian, Karn ETC. on the way to school, but I do NOT want to get in that habit. What happens with me is if I listen to something in a car ride to a place I hate going to (Like school) I will never be able to hear that music again without thinking about my ride to school, stuck in traffic with all the jerks! But the thing with Talk Talk is, I used to listen to it so much, that I can listen to it every day on the way to school, and listen to it later and not think about school... Anyway, I listened to it again this morning (I hadn't for a while) And It's really great!! I am glad I'm listening to it in the morning and afternoon again. Also, does anyone else have that problem... Good music associated with bad memories/feelings?? I guess I'm just a weirdo...

Totally!

No Doubt 'Tragic Kingdom' summer 1996.
I had such hopes for the band I was in but it got messed up at every turn and in that summer I was so optimistic, we had such terrible luck with various members (Long Story).
Anyway I Loved that album so much but it depresses me when I hear it.

What 'talk talk album ?
I'm about to transfer one to CD, i already dug out my OMD albums n burnt them to CD and apart from the singles
Enola gay
Joan of Arc
Souvenir (CHEESE!)
and the odd track, they were awful and I wont be listening to them again!
