What other music does everyone like?

I think everybody have memories or feelings related to songs. It's something very natural. The problem is when you despise something you like because it was playing at a bad moment. I hate that , so I try to remember the reasons why I like that song first and forget the bad memories.

I always go to college with my cd player on , and although I like to go to there , everybody have bad days or stressful days ,so in that cases , I use my music to relax and try to feel better and it usually works!!
So, try to use your music on your way to school to forget the bad feelings. I use to concentrate on the music and isolate myself from the noise and the stress of the city. :-)

I hate when that happens! I had something bad happen to me when I was listening to Obscure Alternatives... I still can't listen to it properly. Pity because it's my favourite song on the OA album...

And then I had something really good happen when I was listening to Howard Jones's Things Can Only Get Better and I can't stop listening to it, usually at least once a day or so.

For a while between 1998 and 2000, I had a hard time listening to The Cocteau Twins' album Treasure. Some stupid thing about a girl. :)

That happens to me with the album 'Pornography' by The Cure. The last time I listened to it was almost two years ago. I was having a big depression and it made me feel so bad then that I still can't listen to it entire. The funny thing is that when The Cure have played any song of the album at the gigs I've attempted , it always made me happy!!

Yeah- Everytime I listen to "Fall In Love With me" I remember driving home from school behind this a-hole who kept cutting me off, peeling tires in my face, almost smashing into me 5 times ETC. So now whenever I listen to that song I remember that jerk in the yukon and also that jerk in the red Hyundai *Seeths*

I try really hard to NOT associate songs with bad things, but sometimes it just can't be helped, but when I am driving music usually keeps me relaxed (sometimes too much-- the music carries me somewhere else, but luckily not into the ditch).

Alot of songs from 1976 remind me of my brother getting really sick, and then songs by They might Be Giants remind me of an old boyfriend and his buddies and how we all hung out for several months----I can't stand listening to them now!!!!

I turned a boyfriend onto Roxy Music years ago---wonder if he can stand listening to them now? lol. Of course, he turned me onto Led Zeppelin, and I just bought their boxed set, soooooo......................ex-boyfriend and I both really appreciated music then and I 'm certain he still does....

I can't listen to "King of Pain" by the Police without thinking of my grandfather's death and funeral. This was around the time that the Police were very popular and "Synchronicity" had recently come out. The night we found out my grandfather was gone, that song played on the radio twice on the way to my grandparents' house (they lived about three hours away). It played again several times in the car during the next two or three days--it seemed like every time we got in the car it was on. Then on the way to the graveyard from the funeral at the church, it came on again. I finally asked my mom to just turn the radio off completely. When I hear that song now, it brings back all those sad moments in the car, no one speaking, just driving to the wake, the funeral, the burial, and it reminds me of the helplessness I felt then as a child, unable to do anything useful but stay out of everyone's way until it was all over.
It is all entirely perfect--it is as it should be.

Oh, Sheisnot, that is so terrible and I am so sorry for your loss. Associating music with death must be awful. Especially if it was something you really liked! However, when my grandfather died, I was listening to "True" by Spandau Ballet as we pulled into the driveway and it was only minutes later we found out. But I remember having an awful feeling the entire time I was driving over there. Anyway, I was always worried I would think of that when I listened to 'True' again, but suprisingly, I didn't. Also, the day after my Grandma died I listened to "This must be the place" by the Talking heads over and over that whole day because it was the only song that could keep me from being too depressed. It actually made me feel better, and I am happy to say it is still very pleasant to listen to. However, some songs do remind me of horrible things (Luckily it wasn't stuff I really loved) But Sheisnot- I really hope some day you will be able to listen to those songs again without a horrible memory or feeling accompanying them!!

This is so sad...I too am so sorry for your loss. How awful that this same song should have kept playing repeatedly during this terrible time for you and your family. No wonder you can't hear it now without it evoking all those memories and feelings. I guess this is one example of how music can sometimes be a curse rather than a blessing.

It is no wonder we all come together like we do-----our musical tastes overlap in so many bands, styles, etc.

You know, regardless of our ages, our geography, we have the love of the same music which transcends the rest of the obstacles (if there are any).

I am a massive Ocean Colour Scene fan. OCS are from Birmingham in England and are the best indie band in the world.
