rain, rain go away....

Postby godisinthesilences on Wed Jun 28, 2006 8:06 am

My work was cancelled today.... pretty much everything around here is closed. A neighboring county is in a state of emergency. It has now rained ... and I don't mean a light little down pour but torrential rain... for two days. It has stopped for the moment, but apparently is supposed to begin again. This is rather unusual weather for central ny state. I've never had work cancelled due to rain!
I am hopeful that no one is hurt and not much property is damaged.

Blimey - and I was just about to say come and live in Lancashire and then you'll know what rain is.

Sounds serious - I would put money on it being global warming-related. Hope it doesnt last too long....

my county is in a state of emergency and the downtown is closed down. the govenor was just here to evaluate the damage and i hear helicopters checking for rescues and damage.
My brother's house seems to have sustained flooding damage. Sadly that is the last thing he needs since he was let go of his job this week due to injury.... Ugh...
I live on a hill so we're ok but not going anywhere... have no idea what tomorrow holds. More rain seems to be predicted

That's just awful. Flooding is NOT cool. I love the rain, but jeez.

we've had approximately 4 deaths so far from this.... they evacuated one hospital. My friends living down closer to the river I believe may be evacuated tonight.
Would you believe after all the devastation of New Orleans and much of the south last year people still refused to leave their homes???? Even though it was mandatory evacuation! What is wrong with some people? Your stuff is not worth your life! One lady was on the news ...she had left her house but then went back because she started thinking of her son's things in the basement... and her xmas decorations....WTF?!?!?! Nothing but my kids, my spouse or family members being trapped in the house could make me risk my life!

People think it can't happen to them, I guess.

When I was uncertain of my home after Katrina, that's what I kept telling myself: "It's just stuff." It made it a lot easier to deal with.

Oh, wow! That's terrible! I wish you could send that rain down here. We're actually experiencing a drought right now, which is odd because it usually rains about every other day.

I hope everything turns out okay for you! People do seem to put too much value on possessions and not on their lives, sadly.

well another day off from work today. The river seems to have crested now... however more rain is predicted. Parts of a major highway near me collapsed into a hole. two 18 wheelers fell in and the drivers were killed. sort of unreal all of this.

I've seen it on TV today!!!
I hope it won't cause more damage...
It's ironic...in Madrid , the governor is planning to make artificial rain because the drought we're having is terrible...

yes it is a scarey reality...shame our government officials don't agree. Why on earth should they care... they are older and will be dead before the earth implodes on us.

Has anyone seen War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise? Ok granted most don't like him, but the movie is fricken TERRIFYING!!!!

Oh yes, I made the mistake of seeing that movie at the theatre...It's just terribly bad... I only watched it because the novel is great.

But, I know what you mean. And , yes, there's something really f*cked up. My father teaches climathology at University , and talks about it all day long.
