Your favorite towns on earth!

Postby Silver Moon on Thu Jul 02, 2009 9:56 pm

I was inspired to start this thread in honor of Small Towns across America (and the entire world! After all, Manafon is a small town!) after visiting my new favorite place, Bell Buckle TN.

I was wondering if anyone would like to post about their favorite small town(s) where they are, what makes them special, and any information you wish. And please post pictures if you have any!

... I plan on visiting more small towns in the future, such as Adams TN (Home of the Bell witch) and Cumberland Gap TN (Smallest town in TN - 200 people) I want to try and hit all of the small towns in TN someday if I can.

Here are some pictures of my outing to Bell Buckle, TN:

Image
A beautiful old house in Bell Buckle, TN. Most houses near the downtown area were built in the early to mid 1800's. Though many near the outskirts were built in 1900.

Image
A very eclectic, but beautiful house painted Pink and Purple... Right by downtown.

Image
Another cool house this time with a seaside theme.

Image
The heart of downtown Bell Buckle. RC cola and Moon Pie's are a Bell Buckle staple as the official RC Cola and Moon Pie festival is held there each year.

Image
If this isn't welcoming, I don't know what is... The entrance to the Bell Buckle cafe.

Image
Old hand-painted street signs.

Image
One of Bell Buckle's many logos. With the trademark quilt pattern in the background. Too cute.

Image
A mural painted on the side of an old building. Bell Buckle is a very arts & crafts oriented town.

Me standing by the sign!

Image
The entire downtown of Bell Buckle. The highest building being town hall! Population is 391 people, the city limit is only 0.5 square mile(s) (0.8 KM)!

The next 2 towns on my list:

I cannot wait to see everyone else's favorite tiny (or smaller) towns!

This is a very nice topic! :D Everyone's pics are awesome. Kera, that little town is very cute :D

Helsinki is also one of my fave places, I hope I will be able to go back one day :)

There are many small towns that I love, but this is one of them. Morella is in the north of my region. Also a very historical place with castle and a very old city centre too :)

Thank you all for posting your favorite towns/cities. Keep them coming!

Has anyone ever been to, or near Manafon?

Saint-Malo, in Brittany, France.

This town changes a lot. This is an island at high-tide:

And the same at low-tide:

Chateubriand, who was born near here, chose one of the islands as his burial place.

Cuenca is so close to here and I have always wanted to go. I remember a drunk Irish guy in a bar in London repeating to me again and again "go to Cuenca" (while trying to kissing me in his alcoholic stuppor, LOL!) I have to go one day indeed :)

LOL

I love Cuenca. Its very close to Madrid too. I've been there several times and it's just so lovely.

Me favourite small town, here in Madrid is definetely Aranjuez. It's a very lovely place, and it's 18th century royal palace and gardens are so beautiful.

Just googled it. Hmm well I lived in Oswestry for 3 years but never knew where Manafon was...wow my geography is terrible.

I don't have a favourite town...but Helsinki looks gorgeous.
