Then there's (in a more lowbrow vein):

Regatta de Blanc - The Police
Actually - The Pet Shop Boys
Men and Women - Simply Red
Led Zeppelin II

All far more memorable (and in most cases more commercially successful) than the first album.

Having said that, for budgetary reasons first albums often do have a really appealing raw, immediate, pared down feel (U2's first album springs to mind) that often gets lost once the band have more money to throw at an album.

Right, I'm getting far too serious for a random thread, so I'll bog off now.

Hey, I don't think it's too serious at all Mel! :D

Another one - and I might be the only person in the world who thinks this way - is the second Manics album.

(Getting even more random, I am currently in one of the two living rooms in our house. My CD collection, however, is upstairs in the box room. This is because firstly the house actually belongs to my father-in-law and so I can't really put them wherever I like; and secondly because my partner and I have five nephews and nieces and I wouldn't like the children to be looking at my CDs and throwing them across the room.)

So anyway, I can't actually remember what the second Manics album is called (and am too lazy to check)! I can see the cover in my mind's eye... all together now, "We don't want your ****ing love - roses in the hospital" etc etc.

Gold Against The Soul, that's it! How could I have forgotten that? Or is it just that my collection is so big I can't remember them all...?
