This week aside from Died In The Wool, I've been revisiting some of David's earlier solo stuff...Steel Cathedrals, Plight, Heartbeat...I still think Heartbeat is a beautiful pop song and it remains one of my favourites from his catalogue.

Have you heard any of their post 2000 material simon, some really wonderfull tracks; Cosy Prisons, Summer moved on, Velvet, Lifelines , the list goes on. A good edition to your collection could be the 2010, realease 25, as disc 2 covers this material nicely.
Also Morten harket has a couple of solo albums worth a look; Wild Seed (would appeal to sylvian fans) and letter from Eygpt

Hi

Yes I have all their latest stuff including the compilation..Lifelines is a beautiful song. There later material shows a real maturity in the songwriting don't you think? I've got Morton's Wild Seed album which I love. Have you heard the track "Heaven's Not For Saints"?

Yes, i agree most definatley that the later material has a maturity and a certain edge to it that to be fair was present in some of their earlier material, but not to the same degree.Hunting high and low ,scoundrel days ,Living a boy's adventure tale are some of my early favourites but i do prefer the more recent stuff to be honest.Morten Harkets voice is as good as ever and has stayed with him , at 51 he is still in excellent shape and this must help. The album Wild Seed would suprise a few with its soundscapes ,maybe not what people would expect from someone like Morten Harket, Los Angeles, is an excellent track too, some people partial to a bit of Sylvian would enjoy this album i think.

Check out Wild Beasts. They are influenced by latter era Talk Talk, but have their own unique sound.

I have just discovered Susanne Sundfør... thanks to the BBC for using her track White Foxes to trail the new drama season. Anyway, having looked her up and bought The Silicone Veil I am hooked... Amazing voice and even more amazing songs, which weave a complex tapestry of sound, as they twist and turn. You can make a few comparisons, but she has seemingly found a unique sound space, mixing acoustic, electronica and orchestral into a haunting, powerful whole.

I urge anyone whose yet to hear her to check her out.... :)
