Im so pleased for you Poison....to be able to enjoy ones 20's seems to be quite rare amongst people Ive spoken to.....they all hated that particular decade for various reasons and felt better as they got older...

Poisoned I was a very unhappy teenager .... they were very hard years.
My 20s were better but still not as "together" as I had hoped... they were tough.
Now that i'm in my 30s I realize I didn't know a darned thing in my 20s and I'm sure when i'm in my 40s I feel that way about my 30s.
The one thing that is wonderful for me is I'm nearly 40 and yet i don't look a day over 28. That is going to be so wonderful when i'm 45 :-)

I was a sad teen because ,people bullied me at school. I was quite different from the rest of the girls, and everybody looked at me like if a were an alien or something like that, just because I liked different music, wore different clothes, etc etc [We talked about that thing on another thread]. It was a nightmare. I had a depression at the end of my teens, but I used it to learn more about myself and find what was wrong with me. I think I still haven't recovered from all the psychological damage they caused me, but I know I'm on the right way.

Now I'm much better. I found some true friends and I've known very nice people at college. I've had some hard moments, for sure. The worst was this last summer when the person I loved broke my heart and treated me like if I were a kleenex  But I learned a lot from that experience.
Now it's different. It's a hard time.I'm still finding and knowing myself but now it's something constructive, not destructive like it was before.

mm hmm The good part about having something like that happen to you makes you happy you're single and now you know what to look for in those types of people... So... When you meet one you can know to Stay far far away!! Before you get close.

Poisoned.... always remember we reap what we sow. So that person who hurt you will be hurt or was hurt ....
I'm glad your over it. I know how hard it is to get away from your past. I mean i still have moments when i think back to all the awful times growing up and then I feel terrible. But, I really am trying very hard to release attachments and live right here and now. One can never be sorry for the things they attempted... only the things they never try!

Yes, I have moments like those too...when I remember all that pain it's horrible, so I try not to think too much about it or just think :"ok, all that has passed and I'm not going to allow anybody else to do something like that to me" ...you know, "Who told you you're allowed to rain on my parade?" :D

Someone said I looked 23 the other week. I love it when that happens.

I can SO relate to that Poison (and your comments about the man you loved breaking your heart - it's enough to put you off men for life, but you've found someone nice so that's great)....I felt like a TOTAL alien at school - I still feel like an outsider even now - the difference is these days everyone who thinks I'm strange can go kiss my a$$.

I agree...it is awesome to be different than the norm. I have never fit.... round peg trying to fit into a square hole. I think it is strange how society wants everyone to fit... why is it so hard for people to accept what isn't alike? It is like people fear what they don't understand...and honestly that is just plain Ignorant!

For sure!! I denied to change my personality when was at school , even when they treated me that way.You know, I looked at them and it was like..."why I have to be like that?? They look like clons!!"
It doesn't matter to me anymore. I am what I am, and that's awesome.
I can't understand that irrational fear that people have for the things that are different. It's absurd.

Absolutely!

However, I think it comes down to the animal behavior buried deep down inside all of us - something like: "If you are different than me you may try to kill me, therefore I must kill you first."

Some of us (most everyone on this forum I suspect) suppress these thoughts and aspire to be intelligent creatures. Unfortunately, many people in the world are still dangerously close to the "you different... me kill you" mentality.

Just my opinion anyway :!:

That's a very interesting way of describing it John. People basically see you as a threat if you are different in any way; be it colour of skin, dress, accent, or musical taste. It's a tribal instinct thing based on ignorance and it's a shame.
