The London meet-up venue has just made me think of songs I associate with King's Cross (where I used to live until about 18 months ago).
Of course there's the Pet Shop Boys' "King's Cross", which took on a terrible poignancy after the July 7th bombings:
"Only last night I found myself lost
Near the station called King's Cross
Dead and wounded on either side
It's only a matter of time
I've been good and I've been bad
I've been guilty of hanging around..."
Apologies for yet another Furniture lyric (in case you hadn't noticed, I kind of like that band!), but their song "A Taste of You" (although I think they actually wrote it about Ealing) sums up my feelings about the recent King's Cross regeneration perfectly:
"This town, this town
Doesn't look the same
They're gonna give cleaning up the streets
A bad name
The arcades and the clubs
Have been closed down
Now there's rows of fancy bars and restaurants
And they don't want me around
Come back to me."
