Music exchange

Postby lastgoldstar on Fri Apr 13, 2007 2:26 pm

A while back (it was a long while back, actually), I remember there being a topic here about doing mixed CD exchanges. I think it eventually evolved into just digitally sharing music, though, because the former idea would be a bit hard to execute.

Anyway, I thought it'd be a good idea to start now, since summer is coming up, and I need something to take my mind off finals before I go mad, heh. And, I have an idea, something that I and a few friends sometimes do over on LiveJournal. I think the original idea was that we each upload a CD's worth of mixes, but in retrospect, that seems a bit complicated. How about we each upload a song or two that we're particularly enjoying at the moment? You can just post whenever the mood strikes, whenever you're really liking a particular song (which, for me, is constantly). I think it'd be a lot easier for all of us to manage, really. But what do you think of the idea? I already have my first song in mind. :D Well, presuming it'd be okay to go through with it...

You could upload it to a file-sharing service like www.rogepost.com or www.sendspace.com then just post the link here.

Cool idea btw!

Yeah that's a really good idea, Kati.

I think I will upload a few songs over the next few weeks :D

Right now I'm in the mood for this one:

Talk Talk - "Ascension Day"

I can't wait to hear y'alls songs!

So i mentioned this song a while ago.

It's like listening to sunshine!

Sung by an artist called Mika who's really big in the UK right now.

That was a good song, Vanity! It reminded me of Queen a little bit.

Crap, I knew I forgot to mention something, lol. There are loads of upload sites to choose from. In addition to what VaporTrail mentioned, there's also Megaupload, Mediafire, and Yousendit (which is my personal favorite), and still more.

Besides Japan and Duran Duran, my other all-time favorite band is definitely Depeche Mode. Martin Gore's my favorite member, and I've always been in love when his voice, because it's not too often that he sings. Anyway, this song gives me chills:
Depeche Mode- World Full of Nothing

Anyway, I really liked both of those! Kera, I love Talk Talk but have never heard that one before. I loved it, it reminded me of Nine Horses. And I agree with Cheery, the Mika song reminded me of Queen, too. It was fun! God knows I need some fun music, with the dreary stuff I constantly listen too.

I will definitely be checking out all of these songs when I get home. Vanity, I believe I know the song you just put up... And if so, I have been looking for it for a long time to listen to while excersizing!

Anyway... I'm glad you liked Talk Talk, Lastgoldstar... They used to be a New Romantic-ish band too, you know! Their older stuff is great too.

Well... I can't wait to listen when I'm out of school...

OK Vanity... That wasn't the song I thought it was! ... I feel like I just had a bucket of crack dumped in my ears LOL! I can totally see that being my alarm wake-up song in the morning though....

Lastgoldstar -- I really like that song. I was wanting to check out some more Depeche Mode stuff... I like it a lot!!

Don't know if many of you are aware of Colourbox. They were on the 4AD label but wasn't very prolific. Together with A.R. Kane they did a single which was a smash worldwide "Pump Up The Volume" (as M.A.R.R.S. - the musicians' initials).

This song has a crunchy, dub reggae feel & very sweet and great melody.

Colourbox - "Baby I Love You So"

edit: I was having sendspace difficulties, changed to rogepost.com file

And here is one Japan-related... I think this collective needs no intro :)

JBK - Sacrifice (from the ISM album)

JBK - Found In A Shell Of Murmurs (from the ISM album)

Okay...I have to warn you, all I listen to is JAPAN anymore. I haven't even listened to the radio in a while.

Anyway...this Visions of China is a slightly different version than the one I've heard. I downloaded it from limewire several weeks ago. I don't know what CD it came from but here it is.
