Gratitude Journal

Postby godisinthesilences on Thu Jul 31, 2008 4:08 pm

You know ... I suffer a lot from depression, it has always been a problem for me. I am starting to bring new methodologies and philosophies into my life that do help alleviate this to some degree.

One of the things I do is daily list 5 things I am grateful for. I thought perhaps we here on the site could do this to some degree ... it may not only brighten your day but someone else's as well.

So today I am grateful for:
my eyesight (my mom was declared legally blind today)
my parents
having a home
a job
creativity

There are 5 mantras that Reiki healers must say every day to assist them in their journey of spiritual development. I think it's very helpful to try and live your life by these rules, but it's not easy!

1) Just for today, I will not be angry.
2) Just for today, I will not worry.
3) Just for today, I will be thankful for my many blessings.
4) Just for today, I will be kind to all living things.
5) Just for today, I will do my work honestly.

Things I'm grateful for expand well beyond 5.

First and foremost my daughter, without whom life would have no purpose.
Second, my mother and my family (yes, mom IS part of my family but should be singled out)
Third, my friends - all of whom I love and adore as if they were family (that includes my friends here!)
Fourth, my music which has keep me going and brought me many pleasures in life
and fifth is a cheat as I will say everything else in life that God has graced me with - my talents and abilities and all that, that brings (ie job, income and the ability to give back), my house, cat, etc.....
Trust the proggrl.

I'm a reiki healer and this is not a required mantra... but it is a lovely one. It certainly does help to center ones energies.
Yup definitely a good one!

Yeah, I was given this by my Reiki Master a couple of years ago at one of the Reiki courses I attended. He suggested we say it after the 'Hatsu Rei Ho' ritual. It's a good way of starting your day, but I must admit I don't do Hatsu Rei as often as i should. I use Reiki every day though :D

yeah i've covered that in my studies as well... I tend to do reiki more uniquely than following it by the letter. I am grateful for being of help to others with the energy work I do.

Specific things I feel grateful for this week:

1. My mum seems to be responding well to a change in her medication and (after a nightmare period of ill health 1-2 years ago) it's now been almost a year since either of my parents was in hospital. (I hope I haven't just jinxed that by writing this)

2. Two old friends I'd not heard from in ages got in touch this week to catch up

3. I went to an excellent jumble sale and bought a great load of stuff for virtually nothing

4. Ex-Furniture frontman-turned-music-journalist Jim Irvin got in touch with the band's fan group at Yahoo to offer to do a Q & A for us. And we hadn't even asked him! How nice is that? I hope Mr David "Obviously someone as important as me hasn't got time to answer your questions" Sylvian is reading this.

5. The first of my tomatoes in the greenhouse is turning red.

"The true way to love in continuous flow with the angels is to adopt the "gratitude attitude." When we are grateful to be alive the world no longer seems like a place of doom; it becomes a beautiful, unfolding landscape of Heaven."
