Hey I LOVE the hairstyle - very red, Mick Karn would be proud of you Tanya! :-D And the Bowie poster - that is so great. How does that man always manage to look so amazing? I want to know his secret! And is that a print of a Patrick Nagel painting I can see? I love his work, so sad he died so young.

I remember it like it was yesterday *goes into nostalgia mode*. I had a black-and-white TV in my bedroom and went to watch it. My mum said "You're not watching that" but because I was stubborn I carried on, so she caved in and let me watch it in colour in the living room.

My first boyfriend was a Bowiephile (as he called himself) and when we met he was like, "You CAN'T be into Japan and not like David Bowie", hence my knowledge of DB's Berlin era. About the only good thing I got out of that relationship! Anyway, I've waffled on again...

Over here in the UK the singer Craig David has heavily sampled Bowie's Let's Dance for his most recent single, but I'm too familiar with the original for it to work for me.

Have I seen it? Are you kidding me? Of course! Brilliant - simply brilliant. Have you seen 'The Hunger' the film DB made with Catherine Deneuve? Also brilliant altho a little odd as they are vampires in it! (y'know - I'm going to end up with a reputation commenting on all these pseudo-erotic films, first 'The Night Porter' now 'The Hunger'... ) But, I know my friends here will understand ... ?

Amen to that Natasha! Have to say Craig David doesn't rock my world at the best of times and believe me that song aint the best!

Hey Tanya you should take a look at the thread in the DS Solo category here: "Sylvian as lyricist/poet" go to page 2 and you'll see I've written a brief synopsis of "The Night Porter". :-D

"Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence" a lovely film to look at, but not sure it actually works story-wise, I don't know why but it's vaguely disappointing. "Forbidden Colours" what can I say? There arent words really to describe how beautiful, emotive and utterly brilliant that song is. Sakamoto's music, David's lyrics and haunting vocals - perfect combination.

Well that was the song that got me into Japan in the first place - six months or so too late! Silly Naty!!!

The first Japan song that really hit me was "European Son" I just loved that line "There's no love in this luncheonette ..." I'd never heard a word like luncheonette used in a song before and it really stuck in my mind!

Wow, the word 'luncheonette '...it caught me too in European Son. Just like 'Illegitimate contributions' caught me on 'Love Is Infection'..i dunno.
