Thanksgiving Holiday?

Postby Silver Moon on Fri Nov 17, 2006 9:51 am

Hello...

I just wanted to post a topic concerning those of us celebrating Thanksgiving! For most of us, it will be a much-needed break. I just wanted to ask... Do any of you guys have any special or just traditional plans for Thanksgiving this year? And futhermore... Anyone psyched about Black Friday? :smt080

I hope everyone out there has a good Thanksgiving/Black Friday... Drive Safely, and remember.... Never wait until Thanksgiving to get the turkey, or good luck may not be on your side! :smt117

ok there has got to be an emoticon for absolutely everything!

Nothing traditional at my house.... I am looking forward to not being the one to cook it this year though.

I myself very much avoid stores between this time and xmas. Can't stand the crowds! And, mostly everyone is grumpy. We had another flood here last night... not as bad as June but that stressor i think will add to this year's already growing anxiety in this area.

I've got the *perfect* weekend to go shopping coming up. I'm in Michigan, and UofM is playing an away game at Ohio State, so the stores and roads will be absolutely empty. I'm not much of a football fan (not sure why, I love baseball and basketball), so I'm taking advantage of the situation. I'm cooking Gypsy Soup for Turkey day, so I've gotta buy LOTS of vegetables and spices and stuff.

I just gotta step over all the geeks waiting in line for that new Nintedo thingy. Yeesh!

Hmmm, lets see.............not really sure what is going on on Turkey Day. I have to call my oldest brother and get his input. Mum is having a bit of trouble with mobility these days, so I may just visit her at her place and take my youngest brother Jay along. But just in case, I went to the grocery store today and bought everything I need to cook at my place if necessary.

As for Xmas shopping, I have been trying to knock that out as early as possible, as work is going to get very hectic very soon (I work for UPS in Management) and I have to have my act together before my time runs out!!!!

It's sort of a tradition for me to have two Thanksgiving meals, one with my dad's parents and one with my mom's. My dad's side of the family is huge, so there's usually forty or so people at that gathering, of just the ones who live nearby. That meal is usually eaten around noon, and then my other meal is more like an actual dinner.

However, my mom decided that she's going to have dinner at our house this year, instead of at her parents'. Twenty people crammed into our kitchen... I fully plan on sneaking out.

All our traditional plans are blown this year. Being now in FL and away from the big family up North, a lot of new traditions are being built. Last Thanksgiving was GREAT! My brother Jeff came down to spend turkey day with us and he and his wife cooked for everyone at my mothers house. Only it was not only his family he brought, but also my other brother and his wife came to surprise us - and they did. So we had all of them, my aunt, cousins and their kids were over - a big full house like old times.

This year we're doing Thanksgiving with my mother's boyfriend's family. I guess it's a big deal with them, and they're good people, so it should be interesting and fun. No brothers coming down, but my baby brother and his wife will be here for New Years. OOOHHHHHHHH then it's Partay TIIIIME for real! Oh Yeyah!

well, since 99', Thanksgiving hasn't been the same for our family ( due to a family member passing on Thanksgiving ), but for this year, i'm going to watch 007 movies on Spike TV, hopefully find a free download for a dvd movie maker software, watch videos on you tube, vhs & dvds, also probably move my board to another sever :)

nothing special this year. my mom has to cook everything and then eat and run because she has to work thanksgiving night. i'll probably build a nice big fire in the fireplace and veg out in front of the tv for the rest of the night. i hope ifc and the sundance channel have some good stuff on this week.
It is all entirely perfect--it is as it should be.

Gotta work on Thursday but flying down Friday to Alburquerque, NM to pick up a car for my wife and driving it back to Houston. Trying to collect some CDs to listen to on the 12 hour trip.

PS> To Ryan, we returned the SC430, it had some undisclosed issues and the Z4 in New Mexico was cheaper/less mileage, thus the needed picking up.

Sorry to hear that Tanya---I can understand how that would affect the holiday.

Our holiday is a bit different this year as well, with some family members living elsewhere, but we are going to have a visit later today. I am thankful for that.
