As you can see from numerous threads throughout this forum, Laughing Stock is one of my fave all-time albums as well. To be fair, however, at the time of it's release, it was not well understood and there were many folks that did not like it. Critics generally panned it at the time. It has only been in retrospect that LS and Spirit of Eden have gained the respect they so truly deserved. Like many artistic masterpieces or even a fine-wine, it often takes time to appreciate something that isn't instantly gratifying and that takes time to get to know.

Boy, it takes guts to like Metal Machine Music! I admire the hell out of it and appreciate the artistic statement, but it's a tough listen to be sure. A precursor to many of the experimental noise bands such as Aube, Merzbow...etc. Too harsh for me, but cool nonetheless.

I am deeply impressed. Someone who owns MMM. For all the stories I've read in the music press in the past, I thought it was out of print and completely forgotten about. At some points; I thought it didn't really exist; that it was made up. Like Pixies, Santa and Boyzone.

I'd really like to hear an extract or two of this album (it was a double wasn't it?) - any ideas where I might be able to do that?

Yeah, I understand. Above all, if you put SoE and LS in comparison to their early albums - the evolution is astonishing, not to say, almost unbelievable.
