Amsterdam calling!

Postby The Analog Kid on Sun May 27, 2007 3:51 pm

Hello everyone!

I already see a lot of familiar faces here - v nice. Me too I have been lured over from the PT-forum. But my interest in all things Sylvian predates my interest in Porcupine Tree by some 20 years!

I heard Japan really properly for the first time on a late night radioo show in 1983 that premiered the release of Oil On Canvas and I went out the next day and spent my last savings on that purchase (well obviousy I had heard adolescent sex, but this was something else altogether)

From there I delved into the back Catologue adn bought Brillian Trees the next year and that one has consistently been in my personal top 10 ever since! Also bought Gobe to Earth and Beehive and loved those (somehow missed Alchemy completely!) and hten picked up with The First Day with Fripp and saw the band live (stunning) and got sidetracked into other music for about a decade (Jazz mostly) and hadother priorities too for a while (like getting married, starting a family, career) so music played a smaller role for some time

Then I happened to stumble across Blemish and that sucked me backk into things - esp as at that tim I found all kinds of great new music again!

So here I am - 41 yrs old (kids meanwhile 4 and almost 7) living in the Netherlands close to Amsterdam (where I lived since 1988) and hoping to be able to catch a show on the upcoming tour. I do like Japan a lt - but it is really the stuff Sylvian did after that that I love most!

personal top 5 (not a big surprise I guess)

1. Brilliant Trees
2. Alchemy
3. Damage (RF mix, have not heard the newer one)
4. Oil On Canvas
5. RTC (remaster)

some more contributions soon

(oh ans should anyone travel here from abraod for a show - DO let me know as gladly put up like minds foir a few nights!)

cheers

Eric

thanks for that - not sure all my ealry 80's memories were always so happy - but at least they made me listen to gorgeous melancholic music - and even tho I also listened to other stuff: When I was tired of 70's stuff I tried everything for a while - Even A FLock OF Seagulls and the likes :-D (hvaing said that i STILL like the tracks Wishing and The More You Live)

cheers
